If its not one thing: Update.
Its the dishwasher. I had been on the road/away from home for about three weeks starting mid-November. Made the mistake of setting a bag of feed in the house. Mouses moved in while I was gone.
I have managed to catch/kill all of them, I think. Problem is they were able to inflict wiring damage before I discovered their presence and rid myself of them.
I came home last night to water in the floor after starting the dishwasher. I pulled it out to check for blockage in the hose after checking inside the washer. No blockage. Found a wire that had been chewed loose. I'm pulling the pump motor to see if I can repair the wires. If not I guess i will be ordering a new pump.

Sounds like they ate the wire on the float switch too. It's to prevent the D/W from over filling with water.

You tube has AWESOME videos of Australian ratters killing hundreds of rats with air guns. CAUTION: the videos are addicting, the airguns are amazingly accurate. The rats die by the hundreds. I love those videos.
I hope you got them all, they are amazingly destructive little creatures.

Yep, that's the next wire I have to chase down. I hate being self sufficient. Lol.
I'm assuming most women would just call a handy man. I'm more of a DIY type so will attempt to fix it myself. Not the first time and won't be the last.

Did you soak up the water in the center well under the spray arm? Used to have customers do that before a vacation.
Problem is that often the ceramic seal would stick and the first start would tear the rubber boot on the seal. Water was was meant to be left there. Just a heads up.

Upon installing the pump assyl. rather new or the existing one;
when you get it installed, pour water into the bottom of the dishwasher to prime the new pump. This is also a good time to look/feel under the D/W to ensure you have new pump seated properly and no leaks. If no leaks start 'er up. When a D/W starts up they go into a pump down before starting to fill. You don't want to run the pump when dry, you can ruin it right out the gate.

We have ground squirrels that have torn up our duct work under the house. So, until we get it fixed....which should be soon according to the guy who we deal with for our A/C....we have seen signs that they are coming into the vents. I'm ready to just put in a moat with a drawbridge!

I did that when dipping out the standing water to check for clogs. I read up on checking for clogs/debris and saw where water must stay in the well. Thanks for the reminder. It nudged my brain to put water back in it. I had gotten so annoyed at the meeces I had forgotten the water.

Thank you. I appreciate all the advice I can get. I prefer to do it myself if it doesn't involve extremely technical expertise. You guys give me the added info to keep from screwing up what should be a simple fix.

Have you tried throwing moth balls around under the house? We had squirrels get into our attic when we lived in Georgia. Mothballs did the trick for getting rid of them.
I feel your pain. My issue is voles outside. Living on a farm is a challenge since I can't put out poison. I fear the dogs would eat or chew on a dead rodent and it would poison them. Let me know if the moat works. Lol.

Been using old school mouse traps. (Don't want my Buddy to come across a poisoned carcass. Old school traps work really good. (I've got 4.) Probably caught 7 in the last 2 mo. ðŸ˜
Every fall through Winter, it is Game On.
If I did not worry about my Buddy, I'd have D-Con bait everywhere. Hate em'.

Update: fixed. Don't know for how long. Lol. I was able to put wires back together and stabilize with electric tape. We shall see how long it lasts.

Gals? I know plenty of "male types" who don't have one clue of what to do when something breaks down. Other than grab that stupid phone device that is. But actually FIX something? No chance.

I always took it for granted that most folks fixed whatever was broken or needed repair . Growing up on a farm in the countryside there was not money to hire it done . Not until I got into high school did I learn that folks actually paid other people to do this . About the only thing Daddy didn't do was electrical work and I took over that job as soon as I learned how . Good for you Susie !
