Wife is the manager of the middle school cafeteria down the road . School serves about 750 kids . During the total remote learning thing earlier this year the cafeteria was doing about 450 to 500 bagged lunches every day . On Friday’s they send out food for breakfast and lunch for 3 days . . All of the kids qualify for free lunches under federal guidelines . For a lot of them

if not for the school breakfast and lunches they might not get enough to eat

That was the story around when my Wife taught last yr ... however most of those families in her district received food stamps also. That is why they are on those govt. meals.

close to 70% of the kids in the middle school are Hispanic . My part of nc is home to numerous large agricultural companies. We have major processing plants for turkeys ( butterball ) and chickens and hogs . Lots of dreamers around here

Sure there are folks who abuse the food distribution but have you ever saw the look on a hungry child"s face when it gets something to eat? And I don't mean those who have not missed but one meal but those that have not had any food for days.

Folks used to wear hoods to deal with parents that didn't provide for their children.

There is a BOOK that says it is better to be cast into the sea with a mill stone around you neck than abuse little ones.

The meal distribution is a very good thing . No kid should go to bed hungry . There are those parents who try hard and can’t catch a break and then there are those that are just deadbeats . Not the kids fault .

School here is providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for kids K-12. They are sent home in the evening with a sack dinner. I believe they are given a three meal pack on Friday to ensure they have at least one evening meal and two lunches to get them through the weekend. I live in a very rural area where there used to be a running joke that if you didn't teach or preach you were S.O.L.

    Good job.

    +1

Some on here sure make me feel humble with their acts of kindness. Guess that is one reason why I like to hang out here and see that there is still some good in the world. Bob

It's a real shame you didn't heed the warning, any of them.
