Cleaning house and found some whiskey

I've seen glasses like that one before. They are called "dosing glasses" and were used to measure a dose of whisky or brandy when used as medication. During Prohibition a person could obtain a prescription for whisky and brandy- I believe one pint per week with no refills of the prescription. Since both of those bottle are one pint, it makes me wonder if they were obtained by prescription?

Regardless, this is an interesting find.

    "dosing glasses"

I've been calling mine "shot glasses".

    I stand corrected.

That reminds me, time for a couple "doses"!

Curiously enough, the recommended "dose" of medicinal whisky measured 1-1/4 ounces; which in the USA, just happens to be a standard shot of hard liquor. Strange how that worked out ๐Ÿ˜‰ I will be taking my medication a bit later this evening.

There is collector interest in old liquor bottles, especially those with nice condition labels and tax stamps. The little collection might well be worth a few bucks.

That Aero-Kroil in the background may make a good chaser.

    Many Blanc & Co Chicago 1891 - 1918.

Does that help narrow it down?

    But only for medicinal purposes.

If the dose cup says Wild Cherry on the back itโ€™s from about 1890

Yep. Wild cherry. The house is 1880ish. I'm not sure when but I'll guess my Great grandfather Martin Ostrem moved in during the second decade of the 1900's
