The links are all dead because this is from 4-1/2 years ago...

    Here's the jist:

Luxury automakers are turning to electric powertrains to help meet upcoming emissions standards, and now, it looks like Mercedes-Benz is giving battery-powered a whole new meaning. Zero emissions, 52-mph top speed, and it runs completely off 9,648 AA batteries. What is it? The all-new Mercedez-Benz AA-Class.

Of course, this isn't an actual car produced by Mercedes-Benz, but one imagined by the cast of Saturday Night Live (SNL). The skit keeps true to a traditional commercial produced by the automaker with the look and feel, but with some ridiculous highlights.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus walks us through the electric luxury sedan's features, including on-board satellite navigation, Bose stereo system, and "ample trunk space to store extra batteries." The new model has even earned the AA+ award by the fictitious Batteries Magazine, and "best-in-class safety" from an unspecified agency. But perhaps the best feature about the AA-Class is the way to change out all those batteries. Do it individually or all at once with the ribbon release auto-dump feature.

The SNL cast thought of everything during this skit, completing it with a great closing line. Check out the video here to see the SNL-inspired Mercedes-Benz AA-Class in all its battery-powered glory.
