might have to find a rifle chambered in 5mm Remington
seems to be a fair amount of 5mm ammo around i was in gunstore today that had quite a bit on it....i grew up shooting a 592 rem as a kid shooting p dogs in our dog town till couldnt get ammo any more dad traded that rifle a long time ago.... are there any new rifles chambered in 5mm?

The only other firearm that I have ever seen besides the Remington 591 and 592 chambered for that was a Thompson Contender

My dad has an old Remington 5mm, he quit shooting it years ago because there was no ammo for it. I'll have to let him know ammo is available again.

At $28 per 50 rounds, I think I'll stick to my .17 HMR.

I have two of the 592's. I had bought a lot of ammo at 65.00 a box before they started making more. It is a better round than the 17hmr which I also have. It was before its time. Don

I have a 591 and its the cats booty. A real killer way better than a 22 mag or 17HMR, plus the rifles are really nice like the 580 Remington's.
I bought a bunch of ammo for it when they started making it again about 25 years ago and I still have maybe 500 rounds for it. If they start making it again I will get some more but not at that price.
I have a 25 RF Stevens too. I wish they would make some ammo for it too. It is a blast to shoot and really does the job on small game.

My first ever rifle at age 15 or 16 was a Remington 591, used it on woodchucks and such.
Bought it off a guy a couple years older than me and like a stupid kid, sold it soon after.
Last year, the guy I bought the rifle from showed up at deer camp and we had a conversation about the rifle with the guy that I sold it to, who was also in camp.
Turns out that the rifle is currently in the hands of the uncle of the guy that I sold it to.
Last I heard, they were trying to work a deal to get that little rifle back to the guy that bought it new 50 years ago.

Don't know why the .17 WSM doesn't have a larger following. It is a very hot rimfire. I use it to set off tannerite which no other rimfire will do. It is accurate enough for what I use it for (2" three-shot groups @ 50 yd.).
Bought 5000 rds. from Sportsman's Supply here on GB a few years back for $7 to $8 per box, delivered. It is higher at the moment, like most ammo, but it is ignored most of the time.
I wish Marlin would chamber it in one of their high quality but reasonably priced rifles like the old 780/880 series. I am not impressed with the quality of the Savage B-Mag. I prefer solid wood to synthetics.
