Picking up a Firearm FFL

With the HUGE increase in gun business they can afford to be snobs. If you get PO'ed and leave it is just less work for them. Return when you are permitted, get your gun, thank them and NEVER SET FOOT IN THEIR STORE AGAIN!

Leave it? . Gun is paid for. BTW... they were not busy

They really have to do very little work to earn the transfer fee, it's kind of like free money for them. Seems ridiculous to me, I'd definitely find a different shop for future purchases.

Did you check with them before winning the auction? Just asking.

My ffl would receive a gun and then call me to tell me it’s there.

But I always check in with him prior to winning an auction.

I've not had that happen, but maybe you showed up unannounced? I either a) wait for the dealer to call me and say "Come get your gun", or b) I call them and ask if everything is ok for pickup.

Worse part, I know the owner and owners son well. They live in our small town. They expanded and moved to the big city. What is my recourse to get the gun?

I know the owner and owners son well.

Immediately the woman says... we aren't doing any transfers today. We will call you when we do.

Call the owner and mention there "Seems to be a bottleneck at xyz picking up my firearm". He'll call her, etc, and that will be that.

Where I worked during my semi retirement there were only 3 people out of 20 employees that could check in guns and keep the books up to date. This kept chances of errors in the bound books at a minimum. Perhaps for some reason today they didn't have anyone at the shop that was allowed to check guns in. It does seem that she could have explained herself a little better. Call them back first thing in the morning and ask when your transfer can be done and go from there. Good luck. Bob

The woman who has done all of my transfers is whom spoke to me about why I was there. The other woman must be her boss. Just how long will I have to wait to have it transferred it to me?

Sorry if I misstated, not leave the gun. Leave the store and return when you are blessed by the anointed to return and get it. After you get it, thank them for their time, wish them a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2021 and never go back. They are treating you like they don't want your business, I would hope another FFL does..

In a busy shop there may be only one person who enters new firearms into the bound book. I had a rule that no gun went out the door till I checked it in. We would then call the customer if it was a special order or transfer. I understand the customer wants the gun asap but a process must be followed. If you had ever had a gun come in and go out without anything being recorded and then have to trace that gun you would understand. If does happen especially during busy times like now, and when you may have new employees.

The LGS I use, they politely ask that you not pick up transfers until the next day. They do say, if you'd like to be there when they open it, that is fine, but politely ask that you wait until the next day to bring it home, so they have time to do the paperwork on their end.

That's like being able to open your presents Christmas morning, but not being able to fondle and play with them until the 26th.

Hope all works out well for you, sir.

    1. They were not busy
    2. Woman who enters in bound book has done a few for me. She is whom asked what I needed
    3. Little Blonde girl was a witch and took over and wouldn't do it at all when I explained I had a CWP and needed no NICS background check done. Just fill out the 4473 and go. I contacted the large Ky. Dealer I purchased it off of for assistance. Next is the Feds if I get no where tomorrow. Reckon I will go over the blondes head to get results or at least try. We can do this the easy way or the hard way whatever they prefer.

Just curious how long do they have to transfer this weapon to me ? Or record it in their books they have it?

You are gonna call the feds?? For what? Exactly what is your complaint?? The mean little blond didn't realize how special you are??

My Buddy works at a local shop, as I understand it they make it clear on their transfer form that they have to have called you.

I guess people get the UPS or Fedex notice and think its good to go but the business has a process for checking in guns and just because its their and received they may not yet have it in their books. When they check them in a guy calls everyone and says its OK to pick up.

Me I get different because well like I started the post with My Buddy works there! :)

Be careful, an FFL has every right to refuse a transfer. The ATF will back up an FFL all day long if they do. All the FFL has to say is I felt uncomfortable about the transaction. Be nice and you will do better than being insistent and rude. You chose to use them, now you are playing by their rules. Once you get your gun you have every right to find a new FFL.

Never been called, been doing business with these folks for 25 yrs. Again...How long do they have to put it in their bound book?

Our guidelines stipulated 24 hours to get them entered but that may have just been a store policy. With due respect I think you need to take a deep breath and a step back. It is their store and they can run it the way they wish. That being said they get no benefit from holding on to your gun any longer than necessary. I am sure that they will get on the ball and make it available as soon as possible according to their operating guidelines. Once again, good luck. Bob

Large Ky FFL dealer to FFL . Just wondering why the new girl was such a jerk ..I have seen folks if they get a little power ... I guarantee when I speak to the owner tomorrow he most likely won't be real happy . I was there and denied .. it would not have taken 5 mins to finalize. No longer than the last guns I ran thru there.

Patience. They have a gun in their possession which does not belong to them. Awaiting disposition. It seems two choices.

    1. Call you to come and take possession.
    2. Send it back to the seller..
    3. Humans beings can be spiteful.

Because you already paid for the firearm, simply play by their silly rules, obtain possession of the firearm and as you leave the store ... you can voice your displeasure that you will never return....if you want. Or just never set foot in the place again.

    Yep

Not saying anything at all about whatever is going on with this particular store.....but when this happens to us its pretty annoying. People get a tracking number and think they can just walk in and make us stop and do whatever they want at that exact moment because they know their gun has arrived. I have all kinds of things going on here that nobody outside our operation knows is going on. We could be doing anything and no matter what it looks like.....we are ALWAYS busy. Having to stop and find a box, open it, log it in, do the form along with several minutes of chatting that goes along with it all sometimes falls in the most inopportune time. A phone call goes a long way. "Hey, I see a package of mine came in today what would be a good time to come by?" At least this way I could plan it out....have the box opened and logged in so just the form could be done and hopefully everything could go quickly or I could at least wrap my head around doing this service for someone rather than them just show up like dropping everything was just something I should do because they KNOW their gun is here.

I only do transfers for people that I know, very few, so its rare.....I'm not a store, so we are different here, but I can somewhat relate a bit with what they might have going on.

As I stated before they were not busy... Not at all.. In fact the woman who had done all of my other transfers sat down in a chair. I reckon from now on I will use my old transfer dealer. If they want to send the gun back so be it.... Or it will get recorded in their book and get transferred either way no gunsmith business, purchase or transfer business ever again.

I wonder what the store would have done, if you had spent a little bit of time trying to decide what gun they had on the rack you would like to buy?

After you made a decision (presumably with their assistance) I am sure they could have found the time to do the paperwork to sell the gun they already had in inventory. NOTE: I am NOT saying the gun they took delivery on for you was on their rack.

Shortly after you made the decision on which gun they had in inventory would have been a good time to "be back tomorrow". Of course, when you return tomorrow, you can decide how many guns you want to leave with on that day (at least the one they received for you and the one they had on the rack - maybe). Extra credit if the gun they had on the rack was a VERY EXPENSIVE gun. You wait overnight for your gun . . . and they wait overnight to sell a very expensive gun they had in inventory.

Sometimes you have to show folks what it is like to walk in your shoes.

A Man with Common Sense. As soon as the Woman ask me if she could help me I was again their customer. At that point the transfer should have happened. I am going to ignore them till they decide to call. Then I will go pick up my firearm and ignore them forever. I will however explain to the owner what went wrong. Thank you for that reply, I will let the owner know that reasoning .

Strange... you know the owner, you have dealt with the women that greeted you multiple times, you're then handed off to a young lady ? She tells you with no explanation that you need to come back as they are not doing transfers today.

Why didn't you check with the first women , whom you have had multiple interactions with previously. You said she is there in her chair , did you at least ask her what's going on, why not ask to speak to the owner who you know personally or his son and get an answer to your dilemma .

Maybe they were having a problem with logging in the gun, who knows ,maybe they were being audited by atf, or had some other distraction/problem that prevented them from doing what you think is a snap of a job with no waiting needed.

A call before going to the shop to confirm the arrival and processing of the gun would have saved you a trip and all this aggravation, along with being a smart and courteous thing to do.

That's what I do, and the FFL's I have dealt with appreciated the calls, I have on two occasions saved myself a long drive and disappointment when told the person that handles transfers or does the intake paperwork was not there that day.

😎 Stuff happens, just another day in paradise.
