sometimes it pays to keep things......

got a box of junk many years back from wife of neighbor who passed and did a lot of reloading, she cleaned out his desk he had in garage and gave me all that was in it. I got 3 packs of CCI 109 primers in with two bricks of CCI 209 primers, have used a few hundred of the 209 and just set the 109's on the back of the shelf. fast forward many years and I bought a used CVA Pursuit inling muzzle loader for my son, it wouldn't close on winchester or CCI 209 primers, I had two boxes of remington primers and have been using them, just got the gear out to go next week and only have 8 remington primers left.


went downstairs to look for more and have nothing left but winchester and CCI 209's. tried both and it will close but you have to slam it shut, it is a break down like the single shot shotguns. just happened to see the 109's in the corner and tried one of them it closed easy as can be. got out the micrometer and they are about 6 thousands shorter than the 209's. doesn't sound like it should be enough to interfere but it is, with the 109 in breechplug it will almost fall shut and lock, put 209 in and you have to physically force/slam it to lock closed. 300 odd shots will last me the rest of my life then I guess he is on his own. This is the first year he has had the whole week off to hunt, hope he isn't as bad a shot as his mom or he is gonna be throwing rocks by end of the week........

    Slamming down on a primer sounds like it could lead to trouble. Not familiar with those inlines hillbillie but I wouldn't want to add any percussion to a cap on one of my side locks!

    Yes it is, considering it only takes 0.004" (4 thousandths) to keep a bolt from closing on the NO-GO gauge when checking headspace in a bolt action rifle.

    You may want to try firing off a few of those primers to make sure your firing pin comes out far enough to light them off. I had issues with shotgun reloads for that reason.
