The modern under 500.00 Bolt Rifle
Seems like I've accumulated few in the last couple of years they all are very accurate hard to beat for a hunting tool. The 2 Thompsons and CVA I actually got for less then 200.00 and all 5 shoot just as well are better then a lot of my Higher priced rifle
Ruger American 6.5 Grendel
Thompson Center Venture 308
Thompson Center Venture 30-06
CVA Cascade 450 Bushmaster
Savage 110 7mm Rem Mag

That's a nice looking group of bolt actions.

I’ve been extremely impressed with my T/C Compass, albeit in the lowly 6.5 Creedmoor chambering. Between rifle, glass, and rings I’m under $500. 🙂

I rarely check, but yesterday Walmart had a Savage 110 with a Vortex Scope in the miraculous 6.5 Creedmore for $499.00. It would probably out shoot all my vintage bolt actions.
Santa, you listening?

I agree. It used to be that if you wanted an accurate bolt gun, you bought a big-name rifle, then floated the barrel, glass-bedded the receiver and first few inches of the barrel, checked the muzzle for tiny nicks, sealed the wood stock with several coats to inhibit POI changes due to humidity, etc, etc, etc. Now you just buy a new rifle and it probably shoots just as good or better than the ones you messed with years ago.

Nice collection.
The only bolt action rifle that I own is a Remington Mohawk 600 in .308 (my username). My one and only "hunting rifle". It is "the bees knees" to me. In the top three favorites that I own. I think it would suffice for most anything I want to do except for long range sniper work, which I don't forsee in the near future. I paid $500 on the nose for it many years ago here on GB. Leopold scope and it is deadly accurate.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot that I do have an old bolt action Marlin shotgun that belonged to my stepdad after he passed. But I don't think that counts.

I bought a Ruger American compact in 7.62x39.I am very well pleased with the way it shoots and it groups very well. The action is a little rough and gritty but it will probably slick up some with use.

I purchased one local and love it. Even cheap ammo it shoots well. The mags are the trick. I took the dremel and opened up the mag well a little. Only use Ruger mags, the aftermarkets just won't work as well.

My T/C Compass in 6.5 CM is my new go-to rifle. Gun and scope together were less than $450, and after a trigger job, it shoots better than I do. So far, I have killed 4 whitetails with it. I hunt in and around some briar thickets, so don't mind if I get a few scratches on it.

Second that. I bought a Compass II in 6.5C off the "used" rack @ Brownells last month and holy cow, it's a shooter. Added a used 3-9x40 and a YHM Resonator and it's an ear safe deer sniper.

tell us more about the YHM Resonator

got a savage predator in 22-250 heavy barrel, bushnell 4x12x40 scope new at a local wal mart close out for 180.00 first shot was 4inches high-2 in to the right. adjusted the scope for the proper number of "clicks" and the next shot was in the red bull. the gun shot slightly under an inch groups with some regular old federals i picked up in the scratch and dent section of the pawn shop. it amazed me how well that inexpensive bushnell tracked. if you moved it 4 clicks it moved an inch like it should.

I am amazed how well the Ruger American in .308 I bought shoots. Surprisingly the Speer 125TNT is under 1 MOA with out any load development. I just picked a powder and went .5 grains under book max.

The "lowly 6.5 CM" was a green font statement! I have only killed paper with it, but it's quite accurate.
