If they're like the 870 triggers, they are pretty simple. Gun is fired, bolt goes back and cocks the hammer. IIRC, 2 pins and the whole assembly comes out. Remove it, and you should be able to manipulate it manually and see what is going on. Maybe the safety might be interfering slightly.

Toad is right. There isn't much to the trigger assembly. Take it out and look for debris that may have got into the assembly. I have found all sorts of stuff in the nooks and crannies, from weed seeds to even a piece of shot probably from a badly crimped shell. Oh yeah, I also found a spent primer that came out of a shell reloaded one to many times. If everything checks out do a search for a spring kit for 870/1100 triggers to lighten the pull. Bob

As above, if it's that bad something is amiss. I have found a live primer in one assembly, weed seeds like a lot, cocklebur, ect. Hard to say but when you drop it you will see something.

Quite possible that a small piece of shot got behind the trigger..

    Is that considered a backfire?
