Anyone working tomorrow?
I am going in at 5:00am. for the last . I work in the meat dept. at a big chain grocer. This week has been ridiculously busy. Funny when people come in looking for things 2-3 days before Thanksgiving and are angry that we don't have them. A good example is small boneless turkey breasts......warehouse out for more than a week. Tomorrow will be my first Thanksgiving working there, even though I have been employeed with them for 4 years now. The mngr. that I will be working with says it will be a really easy day. 5:00am to 1:30pm. Time and a half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And when I get home, instead of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, I am going to cook myself a wagyu steak with some sides. 🙂

LOL..........I should have said something like.............with brussel sprouts and potatoes. But, I will be pan searing it in cast iron and will make sure I get the sides. Seaseoned with ground pepper and sea salt, basted in butter and finished in the oven to medium rare.

Your manager lied. There will be real angry folks with forks and knives wanting to get some deli meat and turkeys that are thawed out ready for the oven. Make up a bunch of tater salad so they can eat.

He did say that there will be some people coming in and asking how to defrost and cook a turkey in a few hours......lol.......only thing we have left are 20 lb frozen birds when I left work tonight. Lot's of disappointed people today.

I worked in a meat department when I was going to community college. Mid November through January 1st was very busy.

I worked in a meat dept after school my jr yr in HS. I cleaned up the mess each night when the butcher's left. Ground hamburger in a huge grinder and ran it thru a machine that wrapped it and put a price tag on it. Worked the deli some nights . Had a super dinner though every evening .. any thing in the deli or grocery store was fair game to eat or drink.

I’m hearing that there is a shortage of smaller birds this year as folks are having smaller groups. Strange times.
But they still won’t thaw in time if they are buying them tomorrow!

For 25 of 32 years I worked 3 of the 4 major holidays of each year . I think I had less than 5 actual thanksgivings days off during that time . Glad not to have to juggle that anymore

I miss working holidays. I would even take shifts for others. In addition to getting time & a half, they would repay me by working 2 days for me. Ain't America Great !!!

I will be....ahem! Working on acquiring some fresh venison for much of the day.

I'm working , I'll be in the truck by 8 this morning heading to Alexandria MN and back , the North Dakota driver thats bring the truck east that has the trailer I need wasn't answering his phone so I had to call our office (night dispatch) and have them look up and see where he was at ,( it's all on the computer now , they watch us all the time ) i don't like bothering the night dispatch guys but I have to know what that east bound truck is doing so I know when to leave so we match arrival times within an hour of each other, other wise if i leave to early i could run out of hours before I get back , that wouldn't be good

I "work" at something everyday of the year. How much or how hard depends a lot on what's required. Cousin drives for HyVee food chain and makes an obscene amount by working pre/post holidays. Son works for the same chain and works holidays to increase his paycheck. Gotta have priorities and those boys have theirs.

Before I retired I worked most holidays and every Thanksgiving on industrial HVAC work.It was hard for me to turn down triple pay.

I worked from 7am-3pm today and will do the same tomorrow. Both days are at time & a half and 16 hours additional regular pay because I worked on the holidays. Gonna be the same at Christmas Eve & Day and New Years Day. Best part of today was not going to any relatives and none of them coming here.
