Yes. That EXACTLY describes my two experiences at the "Sleep Study Center." If I got more than 1-3 hours sleep all night due all the attachments, I would be amazed.

    Absolutely Miserable.

I fell asleep almost immediately, they got all the info they needed and sent me home before midnight. CPAP needed was one of the best things that happened to me. I use it faithfully for 7 or 8 years. Havent slept a night without it unless the power was out. If the people working with you know what they are doing you will wind up with a unit that is comfortable and easy to use.

Does anyone go to a sleep study and NOT need a CPAP machine? I don't know anyone that has happened too.

saw my brother in laws brother at my sleep study, sit and talked till the nurse ran me off back to my own room, saw him a few years later and ask him about it, he said he had two studies done, both came back negative, said he didn't need the CPAP, he had retired from Dupont and I know he had good insurance, he was also a vietnam vet and had VA coverage, that was why he had two tests done, one VA and one outside insurance, both turned him down......

Study objective is to determine what CPAP Machine settings reduce the number of APNEA events per hour below a set value. The study doesn't determine whether you need a machine or not.

I didn't know that. Who determines if you have it your DR or is there a specialist type DR who does that?

My Cardiologist determined I needed a Sleep Study, after discussing at length my sleep habits. (Or lack thereof.)

1st established/confirmed I had a problem. Second diagnosed settings and type of machine needed.

I have drink apnea. When I can't sleep I turn the bourbon adjustment up a couple notches.

That is how I explained it to the GQB that wanted to send me for the test.

He said, "I just assumed you need it, FATBOY!"

Even though I have a good friend who uses a CPAP machine, I firmly believe that those who can't sleep w/o life support are on thin ice. He and I shared a room on an elk hunt. The ONLY way I could sleep was to use ear plugs to keep out the noise of his respirator. After about 4 nights, I was ready to "unplug" him and let him fade away in his sleep.

Had a sleep study done about 4 years ago. It came out 15 events an hour which anything lower and the insurance would not pay. Everybody in my family about has Afib from time to time and all pretty much normal BMI, so I got the machine. I would not take 10 thousand dollars for the machine as that cool mist and forced air helps me sleep a lot better. I go for annual checkups and have never had an average, above on my machine, that is considered normal events as I usually average 2-3 and hour and anything below 5 is normal. I have had sinus issues in the last week from being out in the wind cold air a lot and I sleep good with the machine.

I told the VA Doc that I don't sleep well, waking up numerous times per night. She does not believe me when I tell her my wife says I do not snore, nor do I ever stop breathing. So Doc wants me to take a sleep test. I agreed to, but it may not happen any time soon due to the 'vid.

She also wants me to take a stress test, but as I'm age 73, she allows that the heart Doc may not agree with her.

Same here RR. I sleep in maybe 30 min bursts wake up look around and go back to sleep for another 30 min. If I sleep for 2 hrs straight its because I had a few drinks before going to bed even then that is unusual.

I also have vivid dreams and my brain really never shuts down. I am thinking about stuff and going over things in my head the whole time while sleeping. If I cannot figure something out I literally sleep on it and I usually have an answer when I wake up because I have been thinking about it all night.

You described my pattern well, Sam. My dreams don't involve daytime issues, but they certainly are vivid.
