High winds = power outage

We had winds last night of over 60 mph. I was expecting to lose power but we did not. Unfortuntely on my way out this morning saw three utility trucks at neighbors house they were string new wires to their house.

Because I have a line of telephone poles to my house from the road we would be the last ones to get power as they would restore the road first.

That is why I put in a whole house Generac generator. Came in handy in 2011 when we had a heavy snow on October 28th. Power was out for 8 days. We had well water, heat, lights and fridge. Most people had to cook out on their outdoor grill or camp stove and use the local schools to take a shower.

Power was out yesterday for 2 hours in the afternoon. We are lucky it is back on because at one time Detroit Edison had almost 200 thousand out across half the state of Michigan. Checking their website today shows some estimates for repairs will be several days. It was pretty windy but I only have a few limbs in the yard to clean up today. Judys best friend got her buck yesterday morning in the wind and rain up by West Branch (80 miles north of us) before the wind got bad up there. It was a miserable day but you can't keep a dedicated hunter down. Bob

We had wind and rain yesterday and unrelenting wind today (I'm trying to build a barn!)

The wind blew so hard it rolled my anvil across the yard.

Lightning struck at it 3 times...but missed.

We lost power 24 hours ago on the farm in Ohio. 47 horses need water and the well and house are all electric. They are saying Thursday until they get to that area. Trying to get a big generator delivered and hooked up... Bought a 500 gallon tank on a trailer with pump and siphon to be delivered this afternoon. Sheesh!

    Update:

Found a commercial electrician who is coming later today to hook up a new, larger generator to the house and water pump. Yippee!

    Best.

In NOLA, we're still dealing with the aftermath of a hurricane.

Last night the transformer went out that feeds our house.

Wife insisted I start the generator.

    Six hours.

It's all Biden's fault! (joke, it's a joke) No need to move this.

    Best.

Two large trees went down across our dirt roads. Two of the three ways outta here were blocked. That was Okay by me, I spent the entire day in the gun room cleaning guns, sorting brass and loading ammo. When I am in my gun room, the world disappears from my mind.

Up here in the mountains, if it CAN blow down, it already HAS blown down. That's kind of reassuring. We get some crazy wind.

@jim_lemay - Good point! I haven't done that yet this year. Need to get on that ASAP! Skid, Tractor, Mule and Truck too!

    Thanks for the reminder!!

Yep, make sure it's a biocide though. Most of the diesel "snake oil" is just some sort of "conditioner" , whatever that means. Sta-Bil makes a biocide which is about $20.00/qt. I got mine at Tractor Supply.

I gave up on the regular StaBil after finding a lot of growth in a bottle, unfortunately right after I used it on the generators tank.😠 Took a bit of work to get the fuel system cleaned out. Bob
