Where is the "Princeton" ??
My dad worked aboard ship in the Navy during WWII as the crews barber. It was a position given him as a sideline of his normal shipboard duties. He always got a dollar for each cut and when he came home at wars end, his duffle bag wasn't full of clothing. It was stuffed with one dollar bills!
Growing up, dad cut my hair along with all my brothers. He always called our finished cuts Princeton's. Basically just a butch with some bangs in front!

My Dad bought a clipper to use on us in tough times.
My brother and I looked like we had moths
More divots than a cheap golf course.

Friend of mine in HS (mid-'60's) got a "GI" haircut first day of summer, then went to the swimming pool.
Sunburned his scalp!!!
Dad took us to the barber shop every two weeks to get our "butch" haircuts trimmed. Always early on a Saturday morning so we didn't lose much time getting back to the farm work. No swimming pool time for use :(

As kids my brother and I got a burr or regular haircuts. And a piece of bubblegum when the barber finished.

Except for the crew cut and flat top I had in the Army, I've had the same haircut all my life.
Per the above pic - the College Contour.

For more years than I care to recall I'd get my hair cut once a year whether it needed it or not. I was a pretty shaggy mutt on April 14th but every April 15th I'd go in and have 'em lop it all off. There'd be enough hair on the floor to weave a fair sized pony. Nowadays I pretty much do the butch with my own Remington clippers and then have the wife touch up my neck.

I remember the every other Saturday trips to get our butch cuts trimmed . In the early 60βs money got real tight . Daddy bought a set of clippers and figured mom could learn to cut hair . Late Saturday she cut his hair . He wore his hat all weekend and never left the house till the barber shop opened on Monday to fix it . Never saw the clippers again .

as a kid I went to a barber once when i was about 6 the clipper buzzing I could not stand . but my mom cut all the kids hair including the neighbors , cousins and uncles . ( I think it was dads only luxury was going to the barber down the street for a couple bucks to get his cut ) then from 7th grade until I was 20 years old never got it cut , then it was by a "stylist 'who was a bit top heavy and I liked the close contact for the several times I went to her while leaning into me cutting my hair
then there was always a GF in the picture that wanted to cut it "go for it honey ' ..
then a few years later when my wife came along she started cutting it , then about 10 years ago I ticked her off for something ( yes lots more times than I could count ) but that day she said I never cut your hair again so I bought a walls hair clipper set and have always cut it my self since that day . I remind her if I mess it up I did not care she was the one who wanted me to look nice when in public LOL

Dad used clippers on my brother & me until HS. No matter how still we sat, he always said we moved & had to make it shorter

Memories of my dad forgetting to put the attachment on the clippers and zipping right down the middle of my brothers head are priceless! π
I was next in line and will always be thankful I dodged a bullet that day!
