All that monkey motion inside the magazine well sure looks dainty and fragile to me, but it works every time.

That was the first firearm I ever fired. Ft. Knox basic 1963. I didn't take more than a few minutes to see how I could make that full auto with just a file.

"The M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised"----LT. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr.

They have leveled the playing field in the past and should a rogue government come for your semi-autos they will do it again.-------------------------------Ray

Written nearly a century and a quarter ago, Hatcher's "Book of the Garand" is a must and the best reading this subject.

I have, and have read HATCHER'S NOTEBOOK several times. It is a wonderful book full of information that will astound you.

    And let’s not forget JMB’s 128 patents ,,,,,

    Exactly!

""The M1 rifle is the greatest battle implement ever devised"----LT. Gen. George S. Patton, Jr." And I always say the M14/M1A is "the greatest battle implement ever devised" with all it demerits, real or imagined, corrected.

When I was a kid I thought the M1 Garand was the greatest RIFLE ever devised!

Biggest fault? The PING! Enemy troops learned to listen for the ping before charging a position.

Actually it needed only 2 improvements:

    308 and a detachable magazine.

    I love shooting my M1A.

Don't forget the M2 .50 cal. Adopted by the Military in 1919 and 101 years later still hammering bad guys into a red mist.
