USPSA R.O. Shot & killed this wknd

I am hearing 2 different stories-

1) The competitor (the shooter) dropped his gun and tried to catch it, discharging & hitting the RO.

2) The competitor was reholstering his firearm, which was a CZ of some sort, dropped the gun, when the gun hit the ground it discharged striking the R.O.


Nothing yet from USPSA, or the NROI.

Man dies after accidental discharge at indoor shooting range
Penfield, N. Y. (WHAM) - Police say a man died after being accidently shot at a firing range. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office responded to the Genesee Conservation League at 9:30 a. m. for an accidental discharge of a firearm. A 67-year-old male was struck by a projectile and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly afterwards.


Sadly many people on a very well known shooting forum appear to have known both the R.O. and the competitor.
