$40??? What a ripoff! My LGS charges $10. Takes them 20 seconds to hit a few computer keys.

As I recall, that is normal in CO. Exception for CHL holders, I believe.

I hear you Brother. I am just glad to find a LGS (to my Son) that will accept from a private individual. (Me.)

    It's $30 where i live.

Never heard of the "you have to wait 24 hrs

Two round trips of about 20 mi. ea. way. (Apprx.) Son seems okay with it, but this is his 1st Firearm transfer, so he does not know.

Its called a cool down period at least that what it was in WA back in the 80's.

Dumb as hell but it is what it is and dumb people voted the stinking politicians in that made the rule(not a law).

To me a Winchester defender 1300 is worth about 160 bucks so he is ahead of the game and should be happy :D

Good for you taking care of your kid.  I hope he can get ammo for it.  Does he know how to work it?

You must pay the Infringement Fee and go through the required Infringement waiting period.

Just to expound on what forgemonkey is saying...it is the Colorado state check that is causing the delay.

If you are in one of the states that uses the Federal NICS check for long gun checks there isn't any backlog caused delays.

There is no waiting period in Co.

Pretty sure $10 of that transfer fee is what Colorado charges for their state background check.  Son has concealed carry permit.  No matter.  Every firearm he pays the "fee".

Sam06, good luck buying a Winchester 1300 Defender for $160 bucks. (Even years ago.)

Ricci would sell him one, with a free pair of boots and a couple dozen leaves for targets..............

SERIOUSLY doubt Ricci, would sell him one for $160. (Even years ago.) Not market value for a long, long time. (Not sure where that $160 came from.)

One I shipped my Son was unfired, (bought in apprx. 2005 for $350) 6 shot tube mag, 6 shot shell holder attached to receiver, etc. Not a $160 Shotgun.

But Hey, If you can find one for that, go crazy.

I got one at a gun show about 4 years ago for $200..............with the pistol grip. I have a cool scabbard for it so I can carry it on my back, "Terminator style"........lol :D

Due to high prices for HD shotguns I have thought about putting it up for auction but right now I just can't convince myself to part with anything ............guns or ammo.

Ken no luck involved I wouldn't have one.  We had a bunch in the Unit and they were not ever taken out the 870 was the goto pump.

YMMV but I will pass on them.  Its like the S&W shotguns they just are not up to snuff IMO.

I rescind my previous comment. I was thinking of FL, not CO. Moving around 4 states in 5 years can lead to confusion. Hahaha!

So, it's been (approx) 2-3 days. Does your son have the shotgun in hand?

  • KenK/84Bravo

I left a text this AM asking my Son the same question Iceracerx. I am curious myself. He should have been able to pick it up after work yesterday. (Unless the CO call in is still delayed.)

Son texted. Still in Limbo on the CO. State call in system. Been three days now.

Apparently an excellent system. (For Infringement.)

Oh, I know FCD. No ill will towards the FFL/Gunshop at all. I know it is the call in process causing the delay. As you mentioned there is no advantage to him holding it up, and his customers getting angry.

I have also thought about the possibility of this delay being intentional this close to the Election, in order to intentionally keep firearms out of peoples hands. (Or just that so many waited until the last second, overwhelming the system.)

(Or) As Forge indicated, CBI "updating" their system caused a SNAFU.

Maybe your son just doesn't think that lousy Winchester 1300 is worth the gas he would burn driving to the gun shop to fetch it. That could be it.

  • KenK/84Bravo

Yeah, well he has been there a couple times now. Will be his 3rd trip, (20 mi. ea way.) to pick it up.

To hear Sam06 tell it, they are akin to a S&W 916. 🤔

The 1300 wasn't designed to hold up to firing a million rounds like a model 12. That being said for its intended purpose it is a pretty good gun. Not sure if Winchester still refers to it as the speed pump, but it is about the fastest pump out there. In the wholly unlikely remote chance he doesn't like it, right now it is worth at least twice what you have into it. I am sure he appreciates your generosity.and him having it probably gives you a little peace of mind. Well done sir! Bob

Thanks Bob, that is how my Son and I both see it.

He initially asked me to help him purchase something off GB. Knowing I have 13 different shotguns, the 1300 being new/unfired, and not wanting to over pay the current market value, I offered to send it. (I gave him choice of 3, all new/unfired.) Benelli Super nova etc. Provided he pay the shipping/insurance and transfer fee. Win/Win.

The Sheriff's Office once had S&W 916's...About two years later they got rid of them due to constant F&R issues and went to the Rem 870...My go to in the patrol car was my own Rem 1187 Police model with extended mag...(10 rounds)...also worked great in three gun matches!!!    :)   Like Bob stated...the 1300 is a solid shotgun...just not for the high volume shooter...

Thanks Grunt2, my experience with the Win. 1200/1300 as well. House gun? Better than nothing I guess. 🤔

Combat shotgun? I've got a few of those in the safe as well.

Just spoke to the owner of the gunshop, inquiring. He had been out of the shop for 4-5 days on a hunt. (Which he had spoke of. His previous hunt got postponed due to weather.) Today is his 1st day back in the shop. Said Tyler should be good to go for pick up this afternoon. (Good timing.)

Asked him if he got anything? He said, "Nah, I went on 4 Armed Hikes." I just started laughing.

Son (Tyler) picked up the Win. 1300 on the way home from work. + 1 10 round box of #4 Buck, 1 25 rnd box of #4 Heavy Field load, and 1 25 round box of #7 Trap loads. Per my recommendation.

    He's happy, I'm happy. Win/Win.

    Perfect timing.

After discussing the differences of shot size & availability, he is going to go back and buy a couple 25 round boxes of #4 Heavy Field load.

Pretty much exactly what I told my Son FCD.

Regardless of availability, most people do not ask about #4 Heavy Field load. A potent round. I have a **** Ton of them. Great buy for the $$.

I told my Son, #7 Trap loads inside the house distance, same/same.

Good timing for him to pick it up.

$15 - $20 is normal fee for transfer here.

    Well "Here," varies wildly.

FCD, Not as of today Sir.

Son was able to buy 2, 10 round boxes of OO buck at $18/box.

One #6 Federal Hi-Power (high brass) box of 25 for $10. Not too bad. Telling him to go back and buy several 25 round boxes of #4 Heavy Field load. Best bang for the buck in my opinion. Plenty potent.

Encouraging him to go to a range a burn a bunch of those #6 loads. He has shot a bunch of my single shots, and a couple of my pumps, but not that one. (It was new, unfired.)
