I have about the same requirements as you, MJ.
I found the Justin brand boot socks work pretty good.
Your local Murdoch's should have 'em.

I've got a pack of justin's I'm going to throw away. Brand spankin new.  Bought them, washed them in cold water like it says.  They shrank up so narrow wise I can't even get my hand in them yet alone a foot.   I don't recall them saying boot sock tho.  Perhaps I should take another look.

Clicked on the link.  Like what I see.  Those are a different style than what I got.
    Thanks.

    Thanks all
Yep, I also buy wool socks.  Pretty much one size fits all, but they get too hot and too thick.  I too am really picky about socks, they gotta fit.  Been getting tougher and tougher to find any local.
I do think I'm going to go by Murdochs again and see what they got, slow down and double check the label.
Gonna check out the others suggested too. Thanks all.

"There are tube socks that say large 6-12 that are an 8 at best. "

I find that with most socks.
Being 13 EEE makes finding socks that don't fit like an Ace bandage hard.
Largest Carhart's work but are pricey.

I have size 8.5 feet so finding socks small enough is my dilemma.  For warm weather use, I've been buying "Ranch Tough" socks at the farm store. Not cheap but they fit properly and seem to hold up to wear and washing. For winter boot wear, I have a hodge podge of everything from GI to some high end(brand forgotten) from Sierra. It's a matter of finding the right combination to fit the boots I'm wearing.

Gtpony nailed it. Thor-lo's are about as good as they get. If you prefer wool, Dachsteins are as good as they get. Wigwams 2nd best.

Managed large Outdoor Adventure Equipment Stores for 23 years. Hard core backpacker/mountaineer. Tons of "Sample" socks to try out brands.

For quality socks, look to a Backpack Equipment Co. REI, Campmor, etc.

You guys all have serious foot fetishes and should seek employment in the nearest shoe stores.

The best socks are a blend of merino wool and "possumsoft" fur.  They're tough to find.  After that I like a really thin poly or nylon sock against my skin then Norsewear wool socks over them.  Done.

    Joe.
I wore Fox River wool socks  for years, about 12/14 years ago I switched to these FITS socks.
A great Sock, wear like iron and feel great on the foot. I've bought 6 pair total since starting to wear them, granted I only wear them in fall and winter or when hunting or ice fishing. But I still get a lot of mileage out of the,

Darn tough socks made in Vermont I think they have some over the calf socks.  Great socks that hold up well, and you can  get them at least big enough to fit my size 16 Buster Brown feet.

Well, we've discovered the source of many of the "Bigfoot" tracks.

I'm glad I have average size feet...........size 8 1/2......but dang if they don't keep getting bigger over time. I used to be 7 1/2.

These days it is Smart Wool for me, they even have hunting socks, but also very thin for summer.  Whatever you need they make.

Yeah He Dog. I forgot about Smartwool. I would def. Put them in the top 3-5 socks available. I own a bunch of them.

Went to Murdochs today and they had the socks NeoBlacdog suggested.  Bought a 2 pk. to give a try.  I believe they are going to be the ticket.  I found the ones that I had previously bought, and yes I bought the wrong size then so that's on me.
Thanks again for all the replies.

I havent tried google but WM around 15 yrs ago had something called 'worlds best socks'  They were awesome. I had a pair that I used and now put away and a new pair thats really put away. They vanished from the store quickly. The used pair is still like new, thick with zero shrinking after maybe 10 washes.
