Those pups are lucky a coyote didn't find them first.

That sounds about right for beagles, take it from me.   They love to break out of a fence and go running around in the woods, the farther the better.

Don't know if would work for young pups but grown dogs that go astray on a hunt, I will leave my jacket or something that has my scent on it where I parked.

Take a siesta or eat some dinner and return an hour or two later and the dog has been there the two times this has happened to me.  I know lost from home and just a pup, my story would not be much help.

+1 on the coyotes. When I heard Susie was hearing them out and about, I did not forsee a good outcome.

Little pets in coyote territory are usually toast. Even racoons & possums will take a little young one like that.

Glad it worked out Susie. A minor miracle.

Coyotes were our main concern as well. Smart little pups had not howled out the entire time we searched.

When Brotherbfound them he said he was glad he had on gloves. The male pup tore into him and he would have been a bloody mess.

Said they would not have been able to take on a 'yote, but a large squirrel would have been toast. Mom and dad beagle are hunting hounds so we aren't sure how far out the pups had traveled before they turned around and came home. They were within about 400 yards of home and worn out.

Brother said when he put them in the pen they went straight into doghouse and went to sleep.

Use to try to raise Beagles. Pretty sure the mother would take them away so she would not have to deal with them. No wonder they call them beoches.
