  I know the feeling.  Funny story after my recent car accident I was taken to hospital for X-ray of wrists.  After the X-rays doc comes in and says I have a strained wrist and a dislocated thumb.  The wrist hurt but not the thumb it was moving okay.
  
  Doc comes back after looking at X-ray again and asks if I have arthritis.  I show her my hands especially index fingers which are both very bent from arthritis.  Then she says your thumb is not dislocated it is just the arthritis.
