“Active shooter” with my family present tonight

My wife wanted a new couch, this has been going on for a year and we have been to a dozen furniture stores. Tonight we bought one from Bloomingdales in the local mall.

Then the boys (10,8,5) wanted to eat so we took them to the food court.

Maybe 4-6 minutes after we left the food court someone started shooting in the food court. We were in a shop just across from the food court. Maybe 40-50 yards away.

It all worked out, my kids were pretty shaken up once everything had settled down, so we spent alot of time talking about the evening’s events & how our family handled it.

A shooting near Mall at Millennia’s food court Thursday evening ended with several people in custody and no injuries to any shoppers, suspects or officers, according to the Orlando Police Department.


For me the scariest thing is the fact that had we been in the food court just a few more minutes it is a near certainty I would have returned fire to protect my family.

How would that have played out in front of my wife & kids.

    Sounds like something between some folks.   Glad no one was caught by a bullet.

    I've been to that mall exactly once. The traffic exiting from I-4 is horrific.

    I never want to have to know how I would respond in this scenario. On the other hand I am staying prepared much more often. Glad to hear that you and yours are ok.

    You would have done what men and women should do, protect your family at any cost. You know that and it's the correct thing to do. I AM SO GLAD you posted this as sometimes I am lax in my carry. Thank you sir, you just might have saved some lives on here.

    Glad you and your family were safe.

    If I were in an Active Shooter scenario, I could only hope you were somewhere in the crowd.

    Glad all turned out OK for you and your's. 
    Had a similar issue last year. Went to a child's b-day party in a city park and shortly after we left a gunfight broke out between rival gangs. Ironic, I was packing (like I am 99% of the time) and a couple of the people there went out of their way to tell me I shouldn't bring a gun to a kids party. Told them to stuff it and odds are there would come a day where they'd understand that evil can happen anywhere/anytime. I made some fun phone calls that night and like to think that I might have even swayed a couple opinions.
    Again, good to hear you got out of there unscathed. Hope everyone handles the mental part that goes with this kind of experience. Keep talking with them about it, it may help them deal better.

    Glad you didn't have to get involved. Sometimes the after-effects of having to shoot someone can haunt you for a long time.

    A popular Florida rapper was allegedly targeted in a shooting outside the Mall at Millenia in Orlando, Florida Thursday that resulted in multiple arrests and no injuries.

    Today my wife and I also ate at our local Mall food court, it looked like a BLM convention, not worried but was very observant.  I always carry even in a "gun free zone", always saying to my wife.........."to hell with those signs",  911 calls are usually made after the fact and too late. Glad things turned out good for you and the family  ;)
