Shooting the Rough Rider for Accuracy -
6.5" barrel. Two hands supported off the back deck. Can pop floating leaves 3 out of 4 times at 75 -100 yards.
Super pleased.
Not too bad for a "Pot Metal" Plinker.
*Inexpensive 555 round box of Winchester 36 gr. 1280fps hollow points.

There's a lot of leave right now you sure you got enough ammo? 3 -
Have thus far only shot close in at targets, at our yard range. 15-25 yards.
Tried to reach out there with these, with a steady two hand off the top deck rail. Rudimentary (non-adj.) sights. Pretty damn accurate.
Minute of chest at 100 yards, no problem.
Fun gun to shoot.
(One misfire, tried twice. Attributed to cheap ammo.) I expect better accuracy with better ammo also.
Woo Hoo...........................🕺

My mountain pond is about 4 levels below my deck. (Oblique angle.) Trees and a steep bank all around. Perfect rimfire shooting.
Pretty damn happy with the accuracy of this inexpensive plinker.

Shot a "rough rider". Never mind. different subject. 0 -
Could tell the misses were Ammo related. Would have 3 shots, spot on. Next shot would be off by a foot. Oh well inexpensive plinking ammo. (See above.)

Be sure to take that Rough Rider down to the pond and wash it good after you shoot it. Pot metal won't rust but it should be kept wet and clean. 3 -
You need a pow-dinger! 0 -
100 yards? Must be leaves the size of garbage can covers! 9 -
Have to give Heritage Rough Riders credit, yaa they are cheap, but they are accurate and go bang every time you pull the trigger. Same with the much maligned Hi Points. Have never seen one fail at the range.
Â9 -
Ours is super accurate. Â
IMHO spring for the adjustable sights if ya go for one.
Been a while but IIRC I had to order it for one with the better sight.Â3 -
If you can not hit a bright yellow leaf floating in a dark background at 300' with a double hand supported grip, while taking your time - you are doing something wrong. (I am also elevated about 50' or so above it.) The 6.5" barrel does not hurt either.
This is my standard shooting gallery, so I have considerable practice at it.
If i could post video, I'd be happy to oblige you.

Sounds like many of us could take shooting lessons from you. Typically one aims below the target when shooting up or down hill. Then there's the case of bullet drop @ 100 yards for a 22 lr. And didn't you mention that the sights are fixed?KenK/84Bravo said:If you can not hit a bright yellow leaf floating in a dark background at 300' with a double hand supported grip, while taking your time - you are doing something wrong. Please instruct us on how you perform these shots.0 -
Glad your pot metal pistol is a shooter. Like Ricci said just go wash it off in the pond to clean it.Really I am glad you like it.

Sounds like ya got a fun accurate shooter, enjoy it! 3 -

During REM sleep. HAHAHAHAHAHA I cracked myself up again.9 -
Anyone remember the user "Freemind"? He claimed to be killing deer at like 1000 yards with his 770 Remington. This thread reminds me of that. I believe the meltdown and fallout from that lead to his banning. I too would like to see the video.

I also like shooting at stuff floating in water. Our pond has a steep hill for a backstop and the nearby river has high banks. The splashes show where you hit and in short order you learn where to hold. Do a lot of practice and it becomes a case of 'If I can see it, I can hit it.'......or come real close!Â
Of course, I am well into the 'golden' years, so many potential targets I can't see anymore!3 -
Ricci, you know Ken's PC ha a problem. He probably meant 30' & the PC added an extra 0 by accident. 9 -
Sorry, no meltdown forthcoming.
Some like me here, some don't. Kind of like life. I'll get over it.
I've already discussed how I accomplished the shots Ice. Double hand grip supported off the top of a deck post. Taking my time after a couple/3 shots to range. Never said i hit them every single time. Enough that i was well pleased with the accuracy I was seeing from this 6.5" barrel .22.
Ricci posted in the "Buckmark" thread about setting up and shooting at 75 and 100 yard targets with .22's. Guess that is impossible also.
I also said this is my regular shooting venue, so I have a lot of practice. I do not typically shoot my handguns at short range targets.
You boys feel free to carry on though.

My practice target for standing metallic silhouette .22 was a 4" steel swinging target. I could go three out of five all day long. Standing two handed iron sighted Ruger Government model stock except for my personal trigger work. The ram targets at 100 yards aren't that tough but the turkeys at 75 yards will make a shooter work hard. 3 -
I've shot .22 pistols at that distance, more bullet drop than a rifle because of slower bullet travel but nothing you can't figure out with a little practice.  I'm not claiming to be shooting quarters at that distance.  Elevation isn't the bugaboo some people make it out to be.  Shooting 100 yards down hill from a 50' elevation would be like shooting 99 yards on level ground.  Angled shooting isn't complicated if you understand basic geometry but this isn't even enough angle to matter.
Good shooting Ken and keep having fun.6 -
"Buckmark Standard, pre-fiber optic sights, 5.5" slab side barrel, plain all around, for me. It'll hit an oil drum at 100 yards from the hip. And 16" pine cones @ 400' on a clear day if you do not drink too much coffee." -Sperry-
Another clearly impossible post. 😉 imagine what you could do with a double hand supported grip.🤔
*Thanks SCOUT5, Some of these boys apparently do not shoot at these distances on a regular basis, so it is clearly impossible.

Had a good friend that would shoot at the label/target that came in the CCI boxes from the bench at 100 yards with his S&W 41. I could hardly see it and made fun of him trying. Imagine my surprise when we walked down range and 7 out of ten shots were hits somewhere on that strip of paper. A lot of it was luck but if you don't have the skill all the luck in the world won't help much. Can Ken hit those leaves? Yeah, I bet he can. Bob 3 -
Thanks BobJudy. I shoot a lot. Have my whole life. Not the best, but better than most.
When people like Ice and JJ comment, I just laugh, and consider the source. Don't like me? Oh Boo Hoo.

The naysayers of course concentrated on the "100 yards" aspect of my OP. if you go back and re-read it, it states 75-100 yards. (A ballpark figure.)
I will again state, If you can not hit a bright yellow leaf floating against a dark outline with a double hand supported grip while taking your time at 225' looking down on it from a 50' elevation. Your doing something wrong.
No Jj, not the size of "Garbage Can Covers." We don't see many leaves like that around here. 😉

Ken, I remain appalled at your food aversions, but have absolutely no doubts about your shooting claims. What you describe is hardly impossible and in fact not all that amazing - for someone who knows what the hell he's doing with a gun. You do. 6 -
Thanks Rocky.
I felt ganged up upon, but no longer. The yeah I shoot quite a bit, and its possible crowd have weighed in, against the Well crap I can't do that - that's impossible crowd. Seems it is possible, for some.
Not to mention two of the posters are long time Trolls of mine. Any posts they make to mine are derisive in nature.
Thanks for weighing in Brother.

In your private ear, the reason I clicked was because my eccentric brain cells translated your thread title to "Red Ryder" and I was intrigued to see if Ralphie was shooting groups on Black Bart's men again...
My Single-Six used to regularly shatter clay targets at 100 yards, from a two-hand hold off a solid rest. Some folks could not manage that with a rifle except by luck. A good gun, good ammo, and a good shooter make an amazing trifecta.

Nah, perhaps you should just get out and shoot more often. Nothing Super difficult about it. (YVMD) Your View May Differ.
Where'd you go?

Don't let em rile you Ken if you have fun shooting that is all that matters, Buddy of mine was shooting at cans I was tossing up for him one time, he never hit one.
When I mentioned that he said sure I did they all fell to the ground didn't they?6
