Used to spend a lot of time hiking, skiing and camping in the Catskills and Adirondacks.

Was part of the Volunteer DEC Crew that pretty much rebuilt and staffed the Balsam Lake Mountain Firetower and Cabin in the Catskills.

Climbed often in the Shawangunks. (The oldest Climbing area in the United States.)

A beautiful area. (I lived on Greenwood Lake.) (Warwick, NY Harriman area.) Right on the NY/NJ line. I could literally throw a rock across the State line. AT and Bearfort Ridge right behind my 1947 Chestnut log cabin.

Was a Member of the NY/NJ Search and Rescue Team. (Wilderness EMT)

Lot's of fond memories and good times there.

I grew up on my fathers farm about 30 miles from Cooperstown NY near Oneonta NY. Our family still has a 4 bedroom cabin in Old Fordge NY in the Adirondack mts. For winter time snowmobileing and hunting. I miss the fall and winters in NY.

Spent more than a few weekends camping on the shores of Great Sacandaga when I was young. I need to go back again! Beautiful state if you stay out of the metro areas.

Spent three quarters of my life after the Army hiking, camping, deer hunting, climbing the mountains in Adirondack Mts. (Warren and Essex Counties) Hunting partner had a stroke about five years ago, wife died three years ago, and his black lab passed two years ago. He sold his house three days ago and moved in with his grandson.

If I ever make it back to Virginia I will miss the Adirondaks ( Adirondak, Chestertown, Pottersville, Haigue, and others). Will miss the rustling of the leaves, the Dinty Moore Stew, a cold one from a mountain stream, chasing the whitetails and mostly the companionship of my hunting partner. Life goes on.------------------------------------------Ray

Still here....between Ft Drum and the Adirondack Park.  It is a damn shame about the laws and politics of this beautiful place.

I was born in Brooklyn, New York. My father went to work for General Motors in Waterford, Michigan when I was four. I would have made a poor city kid.

I'm from Upstate NY (Rome) and I loved riding my motorcycle through the Adirondacks in the Fall. The views and smells were unforgettable. I moved to Virginia from the Cooperstown area and that's a beautiful area as well.

Years ago I had vacation property at the bottom edge of the Adirondacks. Used it mostly for snowmobiling. Trail signs were up 12' high in the summer, but only 5' in winter. Loved it but the summer was way too short for retirement....AL
