I have about 6 put up, need about 2 more to be ready. I do have all my winter fat put on though.

It was hard to get excited about splitting wood once it got hot this year. Now maybe I can get back out and work both issues at once!

You guys are way ahead of me.  After cutting, splitting, and stacking for 37 years, it gets harder every year.  I have about 2 cords stacked and a large dead oak ready to come down.  Great weather in the Indy area to work outside.  I used to burn about 5 cords each winter but after installing the heat pump (plus my age) I've cut down.

I hear you on the winter fat supply. I think I still have some left from last winter.

I asked my old (both of us now) Indian hunting partner how native Americans knew the winters were going to be bad.  He answered, "white man got big wood pile."

I have enough wood to keep warm for 2 years.   I like winter!   But I really like autumn.

You guys with 5-7 cords, I am envious. I have two, but they are exquisite dried 99% Oak loads, stored inside a shed. I really lucked out with my supplier on price, volume and quality.

Really looking forward to firing up the new woodstove. Supposed to get down to low to mid 30's tonight.

I have quite a few downed large Red and White Oaks out back. Didn't think they would be dry enough for the new woodstove unit this year. Like a lot of you guys, I was not relishing cutting and splitting any wood while it was really hot, now that I am getting Older. Took a bad twisting fall with the chainsaw on uneven terrain last Nov. Really screwed up my knee. Ended up having two Buddies carry me out of the woods. Ended up in the ER.

Oh the Joys of getting older.

I've considered bow hunting in SD as an out of state hunter can buy tags over the counter for bow season.   I was thinking of hunting on national forest land in and around the Black Hills,  Where do you bow hunt?

I bow hunt farm ground east river SD. I gave up hunting public land east river as it is just too crowded.
I used to do a lot of deer hunting in the Black Hills in the Nemo area.  The deer in the hills are small but there were a lot of them. Outside the hills is good white tail and mule deer country.

Im 4 years or so ahead,  and am going to start cutting back too.  If you keep it off the ground  and keep the rain off you will be good to go.  I save all the oak on my tree farm for my supply and sell the rest. It only takes about 12 face cords to heat my home.  Thats about 4 full cords.  Sold all my cordwood saws and tonight sold eleven blades.  Legs are shot and wont be tempted to saw any more wood, and wont have to have the wife throw away chunks.  What I cut now will be with chain saws,  and I have a new 26 ton splitter. At nearly 80 you shouldnt be doing that anyway.
