I'm not sure how this ended up in the FAQ subforum, but I think that GD is better suited for travel advice.

We have driven cross-country several times and the problem for me is no matter which route we take THERE IS SO MUCH GREAT STUFF TO STOP AND EXPERIENCE it takes forever!

From Bristol make sure you take 421S over the Mountain into Shady Valley and on down into Mtn. City, TN. The road is called "The Snake." One of the roads in this Country not to be missed. When you get in the curves go slow. Some of the curves are no joke. Fantastic scenery.

You'll want to turn around and go back the same way. Different views phenominal Scenery.

Blue Ridge Parkway over in and around Boone, NC. also not to be missed.

Ken, are you trying to get him lost? He’ll end up in some holler hearing banjo music.

I am about 80 miles from Johnson City.   Fall foilage should be pretty good in a week from now.
It is just getting cranked up here in Marshall NC.

Never saw the color come on this fast up here in the hills.
Almost see the change day by day, seems a bit early compared to the last several years.

I agree Butchdog2, seems like an early fall.

I posted about Maple leaves dropping about 3 weeks ago. (+)

Lot's of rain last couple weeks, should be a really good color year/fall.

    KenK,

I was driving those curves one time when my wife yelled at me to "Back off!" the vehicle in from of me.

I realized it was the same make and model as my car. Even the same color!

The I realized it had the same license plate number!

Those curves are so tight I was tailgating myself!!!!!!!!!!

You can have the same experience on the "Dragon's Tail", US 129 from Chilhowee Lake, TN to Deals Gap, NC.
Your passengers will get car sick just looking at it on a map.
Leaves are already turning and falling around us here South of Knoxville; I believe the colors are going to be spectacular
The 10th of OCTOBER should be around "peak".

I just got back from a road trip back to Iowa, took US25 out of Morristown to the Cumberland Gap. Going back to that area next weekend as the leaves should be changing and that road and area up around where TN, VA, and KY meet is absolutely gorgeous. Otherwise just about anywhere along the TN/NC border is amazing. Roan Mountain, The Snake, Blue Ridge Parkway, I26 to Asheville.

If you take 441 from Gatlinburg to Cherokee, you will turn yourself around. Go slow on any of them & enjoy.
