those fall sounds got me thinking....

It’s always good to be the jerk, aka, the first to shoot opening day.
I always perk up and look and wait after hearing a shot.
After all these years, only shot one that came running by from the direction of a shot.

I was hunting in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula some years back and had my back up against a big tree. It was snowy cold and crisp that morning. The first rifle shot I heard woke me right up, it sounded like it came from the backside of the same tree.
Sat still for about a half hour waiting to hear the snow crunching from some a$$ clown close by, but nothing.
It sure does get your attention.

And ain't it sweet when you hear "that sound" then it all comes together?
One morning I was sitting in my blind when my uncle called, "We got done with Lucy's apointment early...you want to go fishing?"
I advised him to pack a lunch while I hooked up the boat and headed his way.
While stowing my gear in the boat I heard a shot in the thicket a quarter mile below my house. That sound that echoes up and down the hollars and leaves me wondering about the details.
"I'm an idiot" I thought. "I should have my rifle within reach."
I ran in the house and retreived my gun then leaned against the gate post.
2 does and a 10-point buck came charging up the ridge in a full-blown panic.
Needless to say, the does continued on without their buck.
We lost my Aunt within a couple months and my Uncle in less than a year.
Oh, the memories.
