What democrats said in 2016 when the rolls were reversed
In 2016, Obama nominated Merrick Garland for the Supreme Court. McConnell attempted to block him, and the democrats responded predictably. Compare their words then with their words today:
Biden: “Deciding in advance simply to turn your back before the president even names a nominee is not an option the Constitution leaves open, it’s a plain abdication from the Senate’s duty.”
Hillary: “Elections have consequences, the president has a responsibility to nominate a new justice and the Senate has a responsibility to vote.”
Schumer: “Garland has integrity, a brilliant legal mind & is a perfect fit for the Supreme Court. GOP inaction does our country a great disservice.”
Pelosi: “Judge Merrick Garland, is a respected jurist who must be given a fair hearing & timely vote.”
Sanders: “Judge Garland is a strong nominee with decades of experience on the bench. [Obama] has done his job. It’s time for Republicans to do theirs.”
Warren: "(Republicans) must ditch their extremism and schedule a vote for Garland".
Reid: “It would be unprecedented in recent history for the Supreme Court to go a year with a vacant seat, failing to fill this vacancy would be a shameful abdication of one of the Senate’s most essential Constitutional responsibilities.”

In 2016 the Republicans were saying what the Democrats are saying now and the Democrats were saying what the Republicans are saying now.
Consistency would be nice, I guess, but consistency requires principles, something that is in very limited supply in the Capitol Building.6 -
Is this really a surprise to anyone.

Ginsberg is/was the problem. The woman had been undergoing treatment for cancer and various other illness for the past twenty years. She could have resigned here seat on the court any time between 2008-2014 when the Democrats held the majority in the Senate, which could have confirmed any Obama nominee. But RBG enjoyed publicity, and being a dying and retired Supreme Court Justice means that you're forgotten. 0 -
Yep. I think she believed Hillary would win and was holding out to retire and have her seat replaced under the first woman president. She overplayed her hand and then couldn’t make it to another term. Hubris.
