I have been logging on my land to build a post & beam 4-stall car barn.

Maybe I should have been selling the logs....

Or is this going to be like the increase in beef prices where the supplier isn't getting a penny more than last year?

Remember also that there are 5 Hurricane/Tropical storms lined up in the Atlantic. The coastal communities are buying plywood FAST.
    Best.

They're logging the heck out of the country above us. Probably 50-60 loads going past the house daily.

Back in the summer, treated deck boards doubled in price.

Did this yesterday. 6 Bill's so far.

My new close to the house wood shed. 6 by 12 with a nice overhang. Doing hemlock for the back and sides and a metal roof. The price of treated lumber is crazy and the quality of the product is crap.

I have a feeling it won't last long. There's going to be a lot of timber salvage from the fires, and Trumps meeting with the Governors in the burnt states has them agreeing with him, to start selective cutting again.

I need to use treated lumber on outdoor products due to the boring bee issues we have.  The price increase stopped two projects I had planned for this summer.  Hopefully next spring with see prices fall back to earth.

The loggers around here say the logs they sell right now are off on price, so yes it is like the cattle business the logs bring very little compared to the finished product.  A cow brings 40 cents a pound and the finished product just look in the stores.   The ones who do the work get next to nothing and will not survive much longer if they can't get more.

I have some timber land in SC and the saw timber prices have not gone up for me, actually down a little from last year. I let them grow and pray for no hurricanes to knock em down.

While there may be a boost in harvest, there is also going to be an uptick in demand.   There've been a lot of structures destroyed in those same fires.

My son's father-in-law is in contractor sales for a pretty large building material place.  He told me couple of weeks ago 2x4 precuts were $4.99 and 7/16 osb was $20.49.   I don't see how a builder can bid out a project other than cost plus.  If someone was to give a set bid price, they run the risk of losing a bunch.   If the real estate market slows down because of the high prices, it will really hurt the economy.   A month or so back, I got an estimate from a company that builds metal shop buildings on a 30x36 with 14' sidewalls.  Their estimate just had a 5% surcharge for price fluctuation.

Very nice wood shed Rob Oz. When can you deliver it?

Was going to ask you if you sunk the 4"X4"'s, but saw the small footings they are on.

    Yikes! "$600 so far."

    Nice job Sir.

President Trump lost his case with The WTO dispute on soft lumber tariffs with Canada  so this may help in the long run.
