How genuine are auction Sellers
hi, i am new member and my question is how genuine are auction sellers, do you need to be careful of frauds ect........?

Same here. I've purchased probably 30 through Gunbroker. Best Firearm Auction site out there.
Like Buyers, Sellers have ratings and feedback. That is/can be your guide. Both do not last long if they are playing games, but get weeded out and gone fairly quickly.

My experiences have always been positive. Check the seller feedback and if you have any questions for the seller, ask them before you bid. 3 -
i have found all the sellers i have dealt with to be helpful, informed, and generally reserved in the description of their items..meaning i have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of the item, more than i had thought. sellers have been very easy to work with and want the customer to be happy with the purchase. i could go on and on with glowing attributes to them 3 -
The only problem I've had with sellers, and this was 15+ years ago was sellers would post shipping charges then after I won the auction they tripled shipping charges when they saw my Alaska address.
One old shotgun in particular, I paid more in shipping than I paid for the gun. (To uphold my end of the deal)
I was very vocal to the sellers, explaining they should clarify and post all shipping conditions, up front.
I have also contacted other sellers to ask about their unclear shipping costs before bidding. Most responded promptly.
I will admit I have not bid on anything in quite some time but it appears veteran sellers, at least, are now posting all conditions. (Shipping and payment terms)
My only other gripe is some sellers will not ship a C&R firearm to my C&R license.
I realize some states have more restrictive laws but the C&R license exists for collectors to enhance their collections, and some dealers appear to either look down on us or can't be bothered to read the rules.
Now that wasn't too critical, was it?

I am not trying to kiss a22, but sellers here are great (genuine?). Yes, you need to be careful and check seller feedback. If you see warning signs, dig deeper...or better yet, move on.

Lots of buys, 0 problems. Once I was the problem as my credit card and bank account had been hacked a couple of days before a winning bid. I explained the situation to the seller, he went above and beyond waiting for me to clean up the mess I had on my hands. It took about an extra 10 days but the end result was a satisfactory experience, thanks an understanding seller. 0 -
From over 20 years now on GB, I have seen some problem sellers, such cases are extremely rare, but such sellers dont last very long. Monitoring feedback and informing GB support of problems is imperative to preserve integrity: Same with any on-line site. You will find fraud virtually everywhere there is money. 3 -
I just purchased some ammo from a first time seller , guy was first rate all the way , very fair on his shipping cost and the ammo was good stuff 0 -
I've been a seller and buyer on Gunbroker since it was new, 1999. I have pretty decent feedback because I try to treat people as I would be treated. In all those years, I can recall having two, maybe three, returns.
You can tell a lot by looking at a seller's feedback. On the other hand, everyone starts as NR, so that NR seller may be an A+1,000 seller in the making. If your seller has low or no feedback, and you want what he is selling, make contact through the link on the page and ask questions.
One thing NR sellers sometimes do, that I disagree with, is list a high-dollar item first thing. A new seller should probably sell a few inexpensive items, building a feedback score and customer base, before listing that $4,000 rifle. JMNSHO.3 -
Over 200 transaction here and the worst treatment I ever got, was some sellers did not bother to post feedback. Buy it! 0 -
Couldn't say how transactions I've had.
99% have been perfect. I had 1 issue with a complete AR15 upper that was sold to me as a Bushmaster. Turns out it was a mix master of parts that wouldn't feed at all.
My take away was - don't buy used complete uppers when factory uppers are readily available for the same or similar $.

My advice is: Never engage in "wishful bidding". That is, assume the worst about anything for sale, unless the seller's feedback, photos, description, & return policy make you feel warm & fuzzy inside. Read & understand EVERY WORD in the description repeatedly; if any part raises a red flag, don't bid until you resolve it.When the return policy is "not specified", or "As is", or "No returns", you better be really sure that you are comfortable bidding on the item. Be sure that you understand how much shipping will cost you, & whether or not that includes insurance. If buying a gun, make sure that your receiving dealer can & will accept it for you.Neal
