Johnny Walker Red Label........
Any good? I was given a bottle for helping a guy out. Wondering if I should open it, or put it in my trading stock pile, along with the 15 or so bottles of BV, 7 Crown, CC, etc.

IMO Red Label is at the bottom end of "drink ability" (if that is even a word). The problem with Red Label is that it takes exactly like people imagine Scotch tastes like...which is why so many people dislike Scotch! 6 -
It’s good for mixing with stuff. On its own it’s a meh blended scotch.

It's far better as trading stock than drinking stock For future reference, there are quite a few less expensive blended Scotches that are far better. My choice is Famous Grouse (the #1 selling Scotch in Scotland, btw.) There are those here who will tell you that nothing under a $100 bottle of single malt is drinkable. IMHO that's malarkey. 3 -
Red Label is an example of just how good excellent advertising can perform for a mediocre product. It is also as state above one of the best reasons for people disliking Scotch. It tastes like iodine yet is touted as a premium scotch. I guess the only positive comment you could make for it is to say that it's a blended scotch which will taste the same no where you order it in the world.
Even a nominally priced Single Malt has better flavor and pleasant smell.

Monkey Shoulder is, IMO, a very good inexpensive blended whiskey. Johnny Walker Black is not bad either. Blends are nice because they are consistent year over year, while you can, at times, find a single malt that frankly should have been blended with something.

I almost mentioned Monkey Shoulder, but as it is only infrequently to be found here, I did not. In case that was also true elsewhere. Plus, I still prefer FG over MS - but know that palates differ.
Single malts are blended, too, you know. Just blended within the same distillery. Except for "Cask Strength" rocket fuel, they are all blended.

Is it legal to sell whiskey online? I assume you would have to sell it just like a firearm, i.e., through a dealer. I assume there is an FLL-federal liquor license-just like an FFL. 0 -
The BATFE has licenses to manufacture and sell firearms, tobacco, alcohol and explosives- too bad there isn't one license that covers them all! The bigger problem is complying with state regulations. Some states simply don't allow booze to be shipped into the state...period, while some have a set limit of a bottle or two. Most states require their own liquor sales licenses, which are often difficult to obtain for anyone other than a big chain store like BevMo. The other big problem with booze is that, much like ammunition, licensed or not, no one can mail booze. This sends you to UPS, who have their own long list of shipping regulations and restrictions.
Speaking as a Class 3 dealer, selling guns, even machine guns, is easy by comparison.6 -
I've order single bottles of higher end scotch online and received here at the house without any problems. They arrived by UPS or FEDEX depending on the suppliers contract. Most came from within the US but two were shipped from overseas with appropriate licenses I'm sure. My address was the determining factor. I didn't have to do anything except pay and supply the shipping address. If the overseas supplier had a local or US distributor, I was directed to use them.

Ah, everyone wants to be the exception or the all-knowing expert and try to be the most correct.Fortunately, I didn't write that the shipping policies were universal, in fact I didn't state anything at all. I merely posted that this service was available to ship alcohol for those who didn't know. If your city, county or state has prohibitions against alcohol I'm sure you as individuals in those areas are aware of those prohibitions. It's not my job to point out all the idiotic variation for every legal division.
Jack Daniel's home county of Moore is a dry county, so the product is not available for purchase at stores or restaurants within the county.In 1934, Evanston was given the option to be a “wet” or “dry” city under an amendment to the Illinois Liquor Control Act. They decided to ban alcohol, and until 1972, Evanston was a dry city. However, Skokie and Chicago opted for “wet” status, which meant that bars cropped up on Howard Street, just three miles from NU (Northwestern University).Chicago had 'Blue Laws' regulating when liquor could be sold. For years liquor could not be sold on Sunday which was later amended to allow for sales after 12 noon on Sundays and later amended to 11AM. Many surmised that this was due to Sunday broadcasts of sporting events (unsubstantiated).
There was one bar in Chicago which had the only 22 hour liquor license for decades, meaning that it had to be closed 2 hours out of every day. It was a few blocks East of Union Station in the middle of a district which contained many 3-shift business. It was not unusual to stop in at 6AM to see 3rd shift newspaper folks drinking martinis.
These are four localized exceptions I am personally aware of. Any others I have not been concerned with. I'm sure the all-knowing can fill us in on the many others.
