Magnet Fishing

My grand daughter is wound up in magnet fishing.  I might go with her.  Anybody have experience with this?  I need a hint on what would be a good one to buy.  Have  a ton on Amazon,  but one must be better than the rest.

    i have a magnet from a large Magnetron tube, it will probably pick up anything down there.  only problem is you might need a good wench to get it to the surface.

    A good wench is hard to find varian, but when you do, hold on to her.

    no, but seems interesting ,    however I spent several summers with my BIL and couple buddies metal detecting . good exercise and cleaned up countless pull tabs and bottle caps until I got the hang of it ,
    as for a magnet I have one on wheels bout 2' wide  best nail / bolt pick up tool ever .  a roofing company about 25 years ago  had the first one I seen convinced me to buy one

    Fishing magnets are 3 or 4 inches in diameter and rated at various lift rates up to and above 900 pounds. Most are rated at about 300 pounds.  U tube videos show people lifting 45 pound cannon balls and small safes. Im mostly looking for fishing pliers and car keys. LOL.  Once in a while a pole and reel. Couple of dippers in the winter.  I also trap in winter and once in a while need to find a trap I dropped under.

    Knives and guns come up quite often on the YouTube videos of found items.  The Harbor Freight magnet should be fine to
    start out.  Use a good rope so you don't lose the magnet.

    Hitachi in Japan owns the patent to the most common types of alloys used in most electronics applications for magnets.

    One American company found a very creative work around to this, they recycle magnets

    If you use an electro-magnet you might be able to bring up a few fish, too.
    Also, do you need to buy a fishing license for magnet fishing? Is there a size limit? Weight? Hook onto an old car and you are sure to go over.

    My family recently went to Huntington lake and that would have been a perfect activity for my two boys (7 and 9). Treasure hunting or finding stuff is what will occupy lots of time especially if the fish aren't biting.
