Just got me a new to me bad weather coat.
I been looking at Barbour wax coats on ebay for a few weeks ever since seeing how to wax a coat by Barbour waxer dude. First they're damn expensive even for second hand but I do like that they'll repair them if you ever got mauled by a bear (for a fee) or let it out if you get chunky. For a few years I was thinking of a Rothco rain proof field jacket but never bought it. It never rained much or I had to do outside dog duties in the rain at work until this year (thanks COVID).
So I figure since I'm headed in to "rainy season" here in California in a couple months I thought waxed rain gear. I saw some Beauchamps but they're basically a field jacket with a detachable hood. Then saw a "Duffle" a 3/4 coat with a hood and toggle to close up the flap. Easier than buttons with cold wet hands. Wasn't sure about the price since it was in English money so I put it on my watch list so I could do the conversion. While doing the conversion of 180 pounds to American Dollar dude shot me an "offer" of 160 pounds. Since I was just kind a sort of looking I shot back an counteroffer of 120 pounds. Before I could get the conversion site to tell me how much 120 pounds was dude accepted. I guess dude needed ale money. All in all about $220 not too bad since I just sold couple of A.R.M.S. 22 scope mounts for $170. So I wasn't in it for much $50.
So I just got it and I was worried that the Large wasn't large enough but dude mentioned in the ad that they ran "big". I think it's about size 44/46? So now I got me rain gear. Also I like the smell. I assume it's the wax but the tin of wax I got has no smell. I'm wondering if the factory uses a different formula? Then again for all I know it's British Frabreeze. So looks like I'll be waxing two coats. Good thing I got two tins of wax. I'll do the "Duffel" since it has more yardage.

Because of COVID I sometimes have to work the gate in weather because they flake. Last 15 years I was a inside dog. Also I didn't want to use the rain gear they have. It kind a smell like Darnell (guess the movie that's from). 0 -

Speaking of coats, my son gave me a Paul Stuart leather jacket a while back. I had never heard of Paul Stuart clothing so I googled Paul Stuart leather bomber jackets and was shocked at the prices.
You could buy a couple of pretty nice guns for the price some of these things sell for. It would have to be a gift 'cause I'd never pay that much for a leather coat.0 -
Waxed coats are nice for keeping you dry, but they sure do make a guy sweat if you're doing some physical activity since they don't breath. 0 -
I don't know why but those waxed cotton coats always have an odor, but it's not unpleasant. 0 -

Smitty500mag - That there is pure '70s Boston Irish gangsta. I like those sheerling coats (like the ones worn by Maurice on "Northern Exposure") but I really got no place to wear them.
toad67 - I took out my coat for a test drive on the way to pick up my ride. A walk of four or five blocks away. About half way there I noticed it is warm and in sun light it is greenish-brown. I wonder if that'll change after waxing?
navc130 - If that's the smell from the wax I like it. I thought it was the British Frabreeze since my tins of Barbour wax has no smell.
The neck strap on my coat is kind a tight so I won't be using that. Maybe I should've gotten the XL but that was priced at 180 pounds and 40 ponds shipping. No price break like the one I got.
