Mauser Experts: Chinese Mauser, Sile, Ossian, IN Help Sought

The man I got it from claims it's a Chinese Mauser action with a Douglas barrel.    If that is not accurate, please enlighten me.  Thanks in advance.

    It is a pre-war Chiang Kai-Shek Mauser made by Mauser-Werke supplied to the Nationalist Chinese around 1934-35 time frame.  Usually seen with the 'Standard- Modell' marking on the the left side rail, which may have been polished off during it's refinish. 
    This Mauser was later copied by the Chinese as the Type 24.   
    That is an excellent quality pre-war action to build a rifle on.

    Yes I would opine a treaty of Versailles period commercial Mauser or off the rack non specific military configuration standard variant for export sale or trial submissions - a non contract run item with no crests or Nation nomenclature or proof marks...

    Early 30's time frame fits the historical narrative.

    The Mauser banner on top of the receiver were a national crest would go is the key factor...

    Size and font and position all point that way.

    IMHO.

    It is an original export Mauser made by Mauser. Mike is spot on.

    Sile Distributors in Ossian, In was a importer/ distributor in the 1990's.  They were in on the Chinese imports of the era. He had hundreds of well used Mauser 98's.  The actions were salvaged for parts. Barrels removed. They had a gunsmith set up to install new barrels and new hardwood stocks were made. Not from walnut. Sile was an importer based in NY. The boss of the Ossian office went to school with the owners family.  They also imported muzzle loaders and other sporting guns from Italy.

     If Douglas marked it, it would have been on the breech face. Being this is a 98 Mauser, with two torque shoulders,  their stamp may have been removed when the barrel was fit.

    SILE Barrels were made by  Wilson (not the 1911  folks). Not Douglas.

    Looks like  some one  found a SILE Barrel an  put it on  on Mauser made  for China under  contract

    SILE Inc. had several location in the US one  being  in Ossian Indiana.
    Sold under the Roberts name,  This location was stripping old Mauser and  refitting  with  new stocks and  Barrels in Sporter  configurations. Used Blue and  Stainless barrels in lots of  different calibers and  Wood   and synthetic stocks.  They  ran ads in Shotgun News in the  mid to  late 1990's.. Selling for  $ 250- $400.00   Phil Byers was  often at the  Ft Wayne IN  show with these  rifles, he was the  head  honcho in charge.
    Most  were very nice  rifles.Mostly used  VZ and CZ-24, This Mauser  Receiver isn ot  Drilled  so not  one of the  ones they sold.


    After SILE  went belly up in  1999. I  bought the  remaining  stock of  parts for  Mausers and Enfield from the Ossian location Came out to   a  tractor trailer load.Including 100+  Mauser Barrels (all gone now)
     I've still got a bunch of  old rusty take off barrels.

    Yes as noted except for serial number and manufacturer placard many commercial groups or gunsmith will sanitize and scrub clean a barreled action on a custom gun...

    Proof marks and crests and COO and caliber and crests and witness marks and import stamps and such gone forever...

    I do - did know a Smith who transferred some of that data to areas of barrel and action not visible when stocked and assembled - but the ATF sent a letter of concern over that practice...

    Obviously the barrel is in the white. If it has not been fired thru, it may be worth something. 22-250s are not known for long barrel life.
