a very humbling thought....

That’s amazing toad, my dad passed on two years ago tomorrow and it weighs heavy on my heart. I guess if they hadn’t been such great men they wouldn’t be so sorely missed.

My dad is still around and was born in 1940 - his dad died at 40 and his grandfather died at 30 both of cancer and heart issues made worse by a lifetime of drinking and smoking and working for the railroad around lead and mercury and asbestos and other healthy particulates...
Both my mother and father were nearly the youngest of 7 and 8 siblings each and I lost my 3 grandparents very young.
There are times I wish I could have a 20 minute phone call with them or share a drink and a smoke...
I do visit the graves and in the Jewish tradition place stones or coins on the markers and talk to them...
My mother's father especially who despite protests secretly taught me to work a snare and trap line and to surreptitiously cross fences and border lines...
Who taught me not how to shoot but how to take small game at close range with am ancient falling block and a handful of mixed .22 ammo or else "Mother" could not add a rabbit or duck to the pot and no meat meant bad things for the very young kids or elderly hangers on...
Is it legal anywhere to take duck with a rifle???
Depression era values - help the family eat no matter the cost.
