some education on reflex sights please.....

Recently picked up a Glock model 40, and am thinking about putting a reflex sight on it, since them tiny little factory sights are hard for my eyes to see. I hope I'm using the reflex term correctly, since I'm referring to holographic sights. I currently have a Burris fast fire II on a buckmark, and like it. I have been reading some articles, and opinions are all over the place. I'm looking for a good quality sight that is simple to use, practical and rugged. I don't need many bells and whistles, such as changeable colored dots and such, just something that works. Since the model 40 is a large gun, it wouldn't be carried concealed, and would be used for plinking, protection and hunting. Price really isn't an option either, but don't want to spend a bunch of wasted money. I am kinda confused as to the moa dot size in relation to a real life situation. I do realize that the larger the dot, the larger it will be at longer ranges. I see dots from 2 to 7.5 moa. Looking for something that would work from 15 to 100 yards. Kinda leaning towards the Leupold delta point pro.....Thoughts and opinions please. TIA.

    My best Holographic sight is (by far) a Meprolight M20P. Not cheap, ($400) but top line.

    It is an "always on" site. (No on/off buttons.) Pick it up, remove the neoprene hood, (if it's in place,) and your on. Gathers ambient light via a couple windows in the daytime, transitions seemlessly to Tritium as the daylight decreases, total dark ensues. Solidly built, reasonably compact, wide variety of reticles to choose from. Cam lever base (all part of the site body) removes easily and maintains zero. (Used by the Israeli Spec Ops.)

    I chose an "X" dot reticle, but you can choose from a diamond, large O, small o, various size MOA dots, and other shapes that escape me just now.

    Highly recommend.

    A Tru-Glo site that came on a very nice Target/Competition Browning Buckmark handgun from Ricci, (I do not know what the site cost.) Is also excellent and highly recommended. (Multiple reticles.) I would have to get it out of the safe to give you a model #.

    I shoot a few thousand rounds a month with a red dot so Im no expert but I have had half a dozen on a few different pistols.

    Large dots are used for fast shots on target & fast transitions. The trade off comes with precision shots.

    I have no experience with the Delta Point Pro but it is a popular optic around USPSA, which I think indicates it is heavy duty and reliable.

    For what you describe here are a few dots I have experienced:

    Holosun 507C - This might be the ticket for you because of the broad range you are looking to shoot. It has a circle reticle with a 32 MOA circle in the center of the circle is a 2 MOA dot. It is very fast and you choose green or red when you buy. The model 2 has an updated design so you do not have to remove it. They can take a beating.


    Trijicon SRO with a 2.5 MOA dot -huge window for fast transitions but you could still get hits @100yds (be it level of accuracy would consist of a 5” circle). My current gun has an SRO with 5MOA dot- but the longest shot I will ever take is in steel challenge and 35yards at a stationary target.

    The window on the SRO is magical- It is very fast to transition and very fast to acquire a sight picture. This may not be your most important feature, but for me it is critical playing in USPSA.


    The only “big name” dot I would intentionally avoid is the Vortex Venom. It will not hold up to 10mm recoil. They do have a good warranty dept though- but everyone I know who has ran a Venom hard, has broken them and moved to something else.

    Second the Holo Sun mine is 407 with a solar window so it works even if battery is dead. Also shake awake feature is nice no sense running it if you ain't using it.  Paid about 200 bucks  Point at target see dot shoot, I may be wrong but I believe it even helps correct movement since you can SEE the change over sight picture. No more Front sight front sight front sight just point see and shoot

    I'd try them before ordering online. If you got astigmatism the dot won't be a "dot".
