Went to Wal-Mart today to pick up a prescription, went back to sporting goods!

Nobody in the Spartanburg area seems to have pump shotguns in stock.  So while waiting for my father-in-laws prescription to be filled I went back to see what was for sale in the way of shotguns.  I think I made a pretty good score.  A Mossberg 500 youth model 20 gauge with a 22 inch barrel and vent rib.  A youth model with it being shorter and lighter really helps me as I'm not as strong as I once was.  With the way things are, an extra shotgun might just be real welcome come the first part of November.  The best part, 254 bucks + tax.  I couldn't believe the price but more important I was amazed at just how nice a little shotgun this is.  The more I look at it the happier I am with my purchase!  Did I mention $254???  I'll be the first to admit I'm a little on the cheap side.  Did I mention $254??      :D

    You done good . I like the 20 gauge for home defense. At social distances it is more than adequate

    Not a bad buy, at all. I have always preferred my pump guns in youth models as well. My little Winchester 1300 20 ga is my favorite.

    They are closing out Axis rifles as I was looking for some ammo and course didn't have any, $170 for Axis, wood ones were like $259. Seems cheap, cheap.

    I have a Mossberg 500, (okay a Western Plainfield) 20 ga. Pump beside my bed. The more expensive 12 ga. beyond the myriad of single shots, reside in the safe.

    Beyond talking about my dog Buddy, you have picked the wrong house, for a break in.

    New one at $254? That's a buy. Especially nowadays.

    Good shotgun at a great price. Since you saved so much spend a little on a metal replacement for the plastic safety slide. Back when I was selling Mossbergs, that was the part that people broke most often. Oh, before I forget, did I say great price? Bob

    I think the 20 gauges are highly under-rated as home defense guns.  You got such a smokin' deal I'm considering goin' into the local Wally's to see what they've got!

    They had plenty of ammo as long as you wanted 7 1/2 or 8 trap loads.  I saw a few boxes of game loads, for sure saw a box of 6's.  No buckshot, no way, no how.  8 would not be any bodies first choice for personal defense but 8 beats the hell out of an empty shotgun!!  My first thought would be shoot an intruder with size 8 shot at 30 feet and he would be making like a track star sprinting down the street!!      :D

    Prescription cost was $6.00.

    Personally I feel comfortable with #4 heavy game loads. I have (a'hem) a few.

    Not too bad off on #4 and 00 Buck either.

    Shot a few rounds of #7 shot through my short barreled (18") Iver johnson Hercules (a bedside gun.) with my Son a few years ago in to the pond my 2nd story deck hangs out over. I was really surprised at the tight patterns, (maybe 1 1/2' spread if that.) at a pretty good distance. (100' easy.) Personally I would not recommend getting hit with that either.
