Vacuum sealed or not? That makes a huge difference. I found a package of venison steaks that were marked 3 years before, and decided to try frying them. Turned out fine. If they had been even triple wrapped and taped, the dog would have enjoyed them.

Id try them if you have a good cold freezer.  Thaw them and look at texture,  freezer burn.  I too have been surprised at meat wrapped good and frozen very cold.  You might be surprised.

don't think they would actually make you sick unless they have thawn out before, but the freezer burn can make them taste funny if not downright awful........ give em a try worst that can happen is the dogs get a treat

They won't make you sick unless allowed to thaw and refreeze.
Freezer burn has a very distinctive smell. Freezer burned fat is awful! It will make eating some meat unacceptable. Sometimes the actual burn area can be trimmed away letting you save the rest. I've has a roast or two miraculously arise from a chest freezer which when trimmed could be used for soups, stew or chili just fine. It's not the same as a roast with all the fixins' but you won't lose the investment.

    Best.

They wont hurt you if thawed and refrozen.  I have seen my Russian born wife do things like they do in Russia.  Many times I have seen her pull out a piece of meat, let it thaw enough to cut off the amount of meat she wanted and throw what's left back in the freezer.  I know she has done this as many as 3 or 4 times with the same piece of meat.  Never tasted any difference, never got sick.

Freezer burn is only served at my house if it is cut off and I want to make something with lots seasoning, like chili.

Yep, they'll be fine. I'd grill 'em up.

I have had 3-4 yr old steaks pretty much like new, maybe longer, I forget. I wrap em and no vacumn.

Grind them up and make some burgers. Maybe add some garlic and steak sauce, or some Caribbean jerk is always good on the patties when grilling.

Venison will last a lot longer in the freezer than beef.

Beef doesn’t stick around long enough to go bad . But when growing up if we had any the was freezer burned it got trimmed out and eaten anyway . These days I wrap heavily in Saran Wrap and double bag in vacuum . Have eaten 5 to 6 year old venison like this with zero freezer burn

Thaw is out and if it looks freezer burn't really bad give it to Bro in Law.
Tell him you got several free steaks that was a Covid 19 relief Gov't free handout and you thought of him and got some for him.
If BIL offers pay take it, and thank him.
