There was a time that I believed in MLK, hell I thought that Frederick Douglass was a great American, but I have to remember that I am a product of my environment, in particular, a southerner hooked on fake history. John Lewis, their kind, and his kind were race hustlers of the worst sort as I see it now as an old man. 0 -

Rosa Parks was a good Icon to rally under, and he was one of them that rallied the troops. The Civil rights Act has morphed into Panaceas of rights where now they want to change history and embrace all cultural taboos and destroy religion and The Nuclear family. It's a whole different ball game now. They are firebombing churches even right now.

Let's see...how many Confederate monuments have been vandalized...how many flags burned, how many whites attacked...way too many. How many knees taken during the playing of our national anthem...how many gillions of dollars extorted in the name of reparations for these kind of racists...John Lewis and his kind were right in the forefront of orchestrating these criminal acts...no, I could care less about caring for him.

He was a civil rights icon, who stood with Dr. King. He deserves your respect and admiration as a courageous soldier for right. If his best years were when he was young, whose weren't? Sure as hell no one on this board is a better man today than in the 60's.

I have to agree with HeDog. I lived in the deep South during the heyday of John Lewis. I was 250 miles from Selma, I was in suburban Atlanta.
I remember 1963. I remember "WHITE" and "COLORED" drinking fountains. I remember in that year, black kids were not allowed to attend the nice high schools that we white kids attended. In that year, a black kid could not attend the University of Georgia.
These things had to change and John Lewis took to the streets in a peaceful demonstration, and he got his head knocked in.
Now, I have watched his shenanigans for the past 30 years, he had a tenured job because the most racist people in Georgia today, ironically, are the blacks and they will never elect a Whitie in downtown Atlanta. He was guaranteed re election for the rest of his life no matter how incompetent he was. And he was incompetent. Boycotted our President's inauguration. What a joke.
But John Lewis was an American patriot and he risked his life, many many years ago, to try to obtain civil rights for the blacks.0 -
He was in the right place at the right time and did the right thing. Not all people put that together, and he is to be commended.
Sadly, he strayed from the MLK message of equality decades ago, and for years, as have most race pimps, moved to unearned privilege vs. equality.
As with most people, their is no harm in celebrating the positive immediately following death.
