Baby Wrens
Taken today 7/16/20. One on right is covering up one blue egg. These are the ones with brown spot on top of head. I put old cuckoo clock up at end of deck and they started to build in it but changed their mind halfway thru. They preferred small blue spruce that BIL gave me for 50th Anniversary six years ago. They are shy today i guess. Will try for heads up pic tomorrow.

Them little Wren birds are persistent when they choose a place to build a nest. I've tried to keep them out of my machinery equipment when I see them first start building a nest and usually have to completely cover the eq or put the eq in a enclosed garage. Once they lay the eggs I just leave them alone, my eq is out of service until the little ones leave. (and they will use the same nest again for a 2nd or 3rd hatch) They do not practice birth control. Suspect they might be getting some type of FREE Gov't handout, child support. Them little wrens have figured out the Americans way of getting free child support maybe, watching humans (slackers) file for FREE stuff and child support.
Few years ago I hung a big white cow skull on a steel clothes line post in my yard and every year colored Finchs (types with the bright yellow or blue belly) would make a nest inside the skull.
Something about the big white cow skull attracted them little birds.3 -
I have a family living in a birdhouse on my porch.
My dad used to hang his old work boots in the rafters of our shed and the wrens would always build nests in them.0 -
How can anyone look at the total helplessness of those babies and not see the Lord at work?? How anything that fragile and delicate can not only exist but thrive is amazing and miraculous!! 0 -
Always set 2 wren houses out every spring. Always get wrens. Noisy in the early am's but neat little birds 0 -

Yellow finches favorite food is Thistle Seed. 0 -
In late winter we will have wild canaries (American Goldfinches) at our thistle seed feeder in numbers that are uncountable. They move so fast around the feeder that you try to count them and fail every time. I count as fast as I can but by the time I get to 30 they change positions enough I have to start over. They are in their winter colors but still a beautiful sight!! 0 -
Sorry to say only one baby left in nest today. Believe it is largest one. Heat and humidity unbearable today. 96 degrees in shade on deck. Crows are know for robbing nest but suspect heat got them. Anyone know if parents remove babies after they die? 0 -
Bluejays will take them also.

Barn swallows moved in last year on my deck. Five babies, all survived and left. Back this year, 5 for 5 again.
Have a second batch going with four in the nest. I don't know if same set of parents or if I have Democrats.

I realize they have 2 or 3 hatches a summer. Anyone know if they reuse the bird houses they had their first hatch in? And do the houses need to be cleaned out to before they would reuse them? 0 -
I had a pair nesting in a chimney block cavity under a mobile home i had about 15 years ago in Virginia. Soon as the first family flew the coop mom and dad tidied up the nest for the second set of eggs.
I always clean out the Blue birds nest in Va. before winter sets in. They seem to enjoy building a new nest from scratch in the spring.0 -

I have several House Wren nest around the house. I love to hear their chattering & wobble song. I built some nest boxes for them, and the come back every year. They can be pretty territorial, and are quick to challenge other birds & Wrens that come near their nest.
