Anticipation or knee surgery 101Update
Scheduled for total knee replacement on right side on Wednesday . Overnight stay in hospital with inhome physical therapy .Somewhat nervous and at the same time inpatient to get it done and get back to being able to walk without a cane etc . Any tips / hints from the crowd ?

I didn't have knee replacement surgery but I did have surgery on my knee a few years ago & I'm not sure it did any good at all.
Wound up having to sell my motorcycle as it was too hard to shift & throw my leg over the bike. Now I have to bet around on my Yamaha Majesty scooter.0 -
in 2013 I literally was just about in a wheel chair. Spent 2014-2015 getting two hips, and a right knee replaced with aftermarket parts. Today I am like a totally new dude. Sure I have a few limitations now, but it ain't nothing like it was in '13. The pain was so sever that 3-4 times I started to black out while riding in the car. This is all so great now. You're gonna love your new knee! 3 -
Wife had one knee done and is getting ready for the next one. Do the follow up therapy and time will take care of the rest. Good luck

Had one cleaned up last year, feels good now. I did the therapy and they worked me hard as I had stretched ligaments so had t wear a brace and take it easy before and after and get weak.
if you had more time I’d say push on with strengthening exercises before. But definitely do the therapy and good luck.

I had TKR on the right knee. Very rough for 90 days. Do that physical therapy like the doctor says. I got a good result from my surgery. 0 -
My advice? DON'T DO IT!I had several knee surgeries over then years then a total replacement of the right knee. Something went wrong - a pinched nerve (idiot doctor?)- worse pain I've ever had. For a year after the surgery I could walk no further than the car to the grocery checkout. I would hobble back to the car with tears in my eyes.
PT would shoot a pain from my foot to my spine. I would leave there exhausted and in tears. I've always been a ruff, tuff, gruff old codger - until the knee replacement, nothing could make me cry.All my life I lived to hunt. With Hydrocone, I could hunt again. Get up, take a pill, hunt to the top of the mountain. Eat my sandwich for lunch, drink a bottle of water, take a pill, then hunt my way home. I also relied on the pills to sleep.Three years ago the government took control of my health care and took away my pain pills. I'm old and retired! WTH?Now, I drink a way too much and sleep very little. Any hunting I do is right around the house. I'm blessed to live in a remote location with great game populations and I'm so old I have a lot of hunting experience to fall back on. So, I'm forced to hunt smart, not hard.
If I sound like a bitter old SOB its only because I am. I hate doctors (A couple years ago, they told me I only had 2 weeks to live. I hate being lied to). <Humor!
Many people have told me about the wonderful success they had with their knee replacement so I guess the odds are in your favor. But my motto is: If you don't expect much, you won't be disappointed.

had my right knee done 12 years ago(3 days in hospital). worse pain i ever had. physical therapy for 3 month while on crutches as well
. had my left knee done october last year at 6 pm, spent the night. walked out of the hospital with a cane. went to physical therapy 3 weeks and was wheeling fire wood up my ramp0 -
The key to a successful knee replacement is the physical therapy, and especially the effort you put into it. The stretching and bending can be quite unpleasant if you expect to get more range of motion than you had pre-surgery. A bicycle worked for me and still does 10 years later. 0 -
Met with the surgeon today . Have to be at hospital at 7:30 in the am with an overnight stay planned . They will have me up and walking tomorrow afternoon

Post op you will have a lot of physical therapy. Start taking a paperback book with you. You are going to spend time on your back in an icepack. Can't count holes in ceiling tile but so many times. Take a book. 0 -
Left side TKR in February, spent 6 weeks going to PT 3 times a week, then 2 weeks twice a week. My advice is to go to a rehab facility instead of home therapy, they have equipment you can't have at home. After the 8 weeks, I was walking 1/2 mile twice a day. Right side scheduled for July 30. If I heal like the left side, I'll be a happy camper. My surgeon uses the Mako Robotic-arm Assisted System, which guides him during surgery. It helps him not to cut more than is necessary to achieve an accurate operation, making recovery shorter and less painful. I took a total of 4 pain pills, and am very satisfied with my decision. 0 -
