When Your Pit Bull Draws Blood -

While Rough housing, due to having his super sharp front claws on your forearm - and he won't stop licking the blood/forearm. Is he saying he is Sorry, or is he just Tasting me?

Keeping an eye on him, just now. 🤔

    My dearly departed Yorkie, Brian, would lick at an open sore when given the chance.  I always assumed it was the taste of blood, and realized that if I died in the house alone, Brian, Carol, and David would probably feast upon my corpse for weeks.

    Don, i have no doubt I will not be missed for a few days + after I pass. Buddy is welcome to whatever keeps him alive. I just hope he is not held at fault. Best dog (by far) I have ever owned. Total Sweetheart with me. My Bud.

    I had a friend from Puerto Rico that would have said "Tug" instead.

    Dogs just do that. Vet can either give the dog an Elizabethan collar or some antibiotic that tastes so bad he will not lick the wound.

    I was always told that if a dog can lick his own wound the wound will heal and not get infected. Maybe it’s a natural thing they do in trying to help you, or so they are driven with instinct to help you in this manner. Rather than guessing at why he does it, why don’t you just ask him. And if you would, get back with me and let me know what he says. I would ask my dog why they do it, but we haven’t been on speaking terms now for a couple of years.

     when I was a very young kid the old folks would say laet a dog lick your cut it will heal faster . 
     maybe a old folk tale passed on for generations after watching dogs clean there wounds ?
     every dog I have ever had if I had a cut would try and clean it for me . No I did not let them but they tried 
     one of our dogs now tat sleeps with me I had a cut on my ankle about a year ago I had to wear sock to bed or she would do her best to clean it up even after it had scabbed over 
     like you said maybe the taste of the blood or my guess also a natural instinct they have to clean a wound no matter on them self or another animal or person  .
     I did a quick look up on the all  knowing internet LOL 

    Humans, dogs, as well as other species, will desire to quickly attend to their wounds. It is an instinct. When your dog licks a wound, there are healing capacities in their saliva and it can also help cleanse the area. ... It is said that their saliva may have antimicrobial and healing properties.

    We were roughhousing at the park and my pit grabbed for the stick and I moved my hand, and her tooth went clear through my thumb sideways and popped out the tip, faster than lightning.  I reacted with an OUCH and it was like I'd beat her with a 2x4.  She was so remorseful it was impossible not to laugh out loud.  She had her ears back making the biggest saddest eyes you've ever seen, with the tip of her tail going back and forth like crazy.  All she wanted to do was lick my hand and make up with me.  They look tough but they have the sweetest personalities of any dog I've ever had.

    My Willie licks the wounds also. Just a dog thing.
    My Willie doesn’t lick anything but it has been licked a few times!

    My dog is exactly like that Nanuq907. A total sweetheart (spoiled rotten) who strives to please. The few times I have to raise my voice he also looks like you hit him with a 2X4. Does the same lay down ears and sad eyes. Will usually make a bee line to his large (lion size) cage/covered with a blanket. Has to be coaxed out with, "It's okay. Nobody's mad at you. Come on out." Come out head down, tail wagging.

    Considering some of the stuff I have seen dogs eat, think I will pass on letting Skipper "clean my wounds!
