Circle and Cross  is usually a  Spanish Mauser   Serial number  sounds correct  too.
But need a lot  more information.  Markings on barrel  on  receiver and  Large or  Small Ring.
Try my  Reference  on Mauser's to  determine type.   http://www.hoosiergunworks.com/catalog/mauser_reference.html

    Hwallbanger,

    Welcome to the forums!
With unidentified rifles, it's always helpful to post a few good, sharp photographs which help us to identify your rifle. Top of the action, both sides of the action and if you can remove the stock, the bottom of the action. All of these spots contain useful information about these older rifles.
    Best.

Spanish Mauser Model 93 or 95, cal. 7mm.  Very common  Made prior to the 1898 Mauser which has better refinements.

Hoosier, nailed it. Spanish Model 1916 Short Rifle. Should be in, 7 mm Mauser? Since  the markings have been scrubbed, you can't be certain though. Take it to a knowledgeable gunsmith, for a chamber cast and test firing.

It was made in the Spanish Oviedo arsenal, which didn't have the greatest reputation for quality of materials and workmanship.
