Have you ever eaten in an Old Order Amish families house???
I'm talking Old Order. The horse and buggy, no electricity, not even in the barn to run milkers and milk coolers. I'm an Englishman to an Amishman. If you are English that means you are white but you are not Amish. I have eaten multiple times at the table with the wife and kids. Normally if an Amishman feeds an Englishman he will feed you on the front porch so you aren't around his wife or kids. So how did I pull this off you ask?? It is amazing what giving your neighbor a few cold beers on hot summer nights will do!! Especially if you make sure the Amish elders never find out so your friend doesn't get "front rowed" at Sunday's service!!!

Front porch eating apple pie. Fished a large pond where no motorboat engines allowed. I stopped and ask to fish while the son was fishing. He allowed me to fish. After catching quite a few bluegill we went to the house to see his Father. I gave him about 3/4 of the fish I caught. He invited me to eat some pie . His wife came out on the porch , served us and went back inside without a word. I thanked her and she nodded her head. I fished that place for yrs afterwards anytime I wanted since they told me I was welcome to. Sometimes I left some fish with the younger son. 0 -
I did once a few years ago. Had some really great food. Was cleaning up the dishes when the family returned home and I had to skeedaddle out the back door...... 12 -

No, but I've eaten at the Good 'N Plenty Restaurant in Bird-in-Hand, PA. We even tried their Shoofly Pie. 6 -
Yes. Once upon a time even received an invitation to attend an Old Order wedding. It was wonderful. Don't know exactly where you're located, but many Amish communities have fund raising dinners once or twice a year for their local school. These aren't the same as a eating in a family's home, but I've found them certainly worth the time, effort and money. Thanks for asking! 0 -
I know a couple of older Amish men well enough to be invited in their houses. Usually offered a drink(water or lemonade) but seldom food unless the Mrs is baking when I'm there. 0 -
I have had an Amish crew working around my place for a couple of projects. They rolled up each day in their buggies and road home each night....We fed them on the 2nd project when they spent 5 days finishing off part of our basement...I have been in two of their houses since then....
They live all around my place, we all get along pretty well.....I told if things ever get bad I am always welcome to hole up with them.....0 -
Here's a bit of advice: If you think the Amish are "cutting you a deal", they're screwing you BIG TIME. You have to watch them closely as "profiting from the English" is high on their bucket list. 0 -

Not my experience at all.....one of the bids with a group of union carpenters would have taken twice as long and my labor costs would have been 75% higher. All 5 of the Amish crew were experienced carpenters that build houses and other buildings all around our area. Survival skills are enhanced when you have The Holy Spirit in you. I don't know how they survive without Air Conditioning however down here in The South it's impossible to sleep at night without it. They also take care of their own elderly and do not dump them in nursing homes either.

Not here, in Michigan's Thumb. I have had them do a steel roof and build a pole barn for me.
