I bought the Ruger American

in .308  Bridgeport Equipment in Marietta OH had one left in stock with a slight mark on the stock, they took off 20 bucks for it.  It has a 22" barrel with a threaded muzzle cap if I ever get a silencer for heavier bullets. I got it for $407.54 out the door with taxes.  The 4473 took 10 minutes with my Ohio CCW.
They are selling over 100 guns a week since January, normally it would be 30-40.  I looked at the other 308's Browning Tikka, Howa, Savage and Remington.  I just like the feel of the Ruger.  Price wise I am very happy, just waiting for the scope to show up now.
FCD, I am going to hunt varmints and have over 2,000 125 grain Berger Match bullets and 500 Euber Match bullets in 30 caliber.  If my ranges were longer I would have gone with a smaller caliber.  Feral hogs are starting rear their ugly snouts around here so having more punch from a .308 seems wise.  If Ohio opens up deer to bottle neck rounds I will have a handy rifle for them too along with the 450BM, 30-06, 45-70, 8MM, 7.62X54R and the 6MM BR.
When I get it all put together and shooting I will do  range report on its performance.  If it is anything like the one I shot in .450BM, it should be excellent.

    Sounds like a good deal. I'm really interested in a report on your scope when you get it right now I'm leaning to ATN's 4xpro day/night vision scope

    I think you did well. The Ruger American I shot was .450 Bushmaster and it was dead nuts accurate. I saw them for $379 new. Outstanding rifle for the money. Hope you enjoy yours. Don

    I traded for a RA in 6.5 Creedmore.  The guy threw in several boxes of ammo.
    I set up a target and the first 3 shots produced a 3/4" group!

    I have worked on reloads for years looking for 1" groups.

    I have one chambered in 450 Bushmaster. Great shooter. After sighting in, I've made three shots, producing three deer DRT.

    I have one in .223 with a Kryptek camo stock. It is a tack driver and my prairie dog gun when I get tired of shooting my Rem 700 in 22-250 (11 LBS) off a table and want to take a walk to spot and stalk and belly shoot.

    You may have some misconceptions of the use of a suppressor. The only sub-sonic 308 ammo is specialty stuff and is both expensive and often poor performance.
