But what the hell, it was just announced that two vaccines are being 'fast-tracked' for release sometime around the end of the year.
Maybe.
IF all goes well.
If the vaccine is effictive.
If the vaccine doesn't kill the same people who are vulnerable to the virus.
So we can have A MINIMUM of 5-1/5 months of lockdown before we get started immunizing people.
Or we can let the healthy 20 to 60 year olds go about immunizing themselves if they are willing. Dollars to donuts most are willing, and we will be done with this crap in 1/3 the time. The rest of us need to take precautions, but if they want to go ahead, I really don't see how it is in our interest to stop them.

I read a report from a study a few days ago that concluded wearing a common mask can lesson your chances of catching the virus by about 65%. No time to look it up now but should be easy to Google it anyone is interested. I absolutely loath wearing a mask but consider it a small price to pay. Why not respect those that have to work with the public and make them more comfortable by wearing my mask? I can't think of a reason not to if only for common courtesy. BobGreatGuns said:

I saw the report Bob, and it said 75% in the study I saw. Convince the hospital workers that masks are worthless. I agree they are politicizing the pandemic, but the virus is for real. If 135000 people could still speak they might change some of your minds. If a mask helps only a few percent Ill opt for wearing it. My daughter is a healthcare worker, and I doubt she is lying to me about her experiences with the disease. 0 -

We call our "sunny days" "hotter than all get out". I try to stay in The Shop. I finally put in air conditioning last week. Besides they won't let us get under the trees in the park. We have to stay on the roads.
It is my experience the pretty ladies will not get near my pickup, if I am sitting in it. I assume it has something to do with the fact "somebody" is sitting in the vehicle. I know it can't have anything to do with who is sitting in the vehicle.
Yea, you know the chances of me posing for a photo with a mask on. Although our governor decided we did not need to be well groomed living in the state of Iowa earlier during the start of The Apocalypse and she closed all of the barber shops. To show my understanding (support = NO!) of her decision, I stopped shaving. During that time (approximately 5 weeks) I did do one military funeral. Yes, I felt bad about it - but I think I got my point across to those in attendance. I am the King of playing stupid games. I can play with the best of them. Like right now . . . for instance.6 -

You seem to scoff at herd immunity, and while is understand the picture you paint, and fully agree with your plan to muddle along, there is obvious value in the concept. Drs. Fauci and Birx are leading the charge to stave off herd immunity (Shall we call it community immunity?) until a clinical immunity is developed. That is the only logical explanation.
Logic suggests that if a vaccine will work, so will recovery from the magical Covid virus. We are being told that so and so has a vaccine under development that shows promise because it creates a percentage of the antibodies present in a person who has recovered from the virus.
I guess this is good news.
Well, if you want to wait for another 6 months for the country to get on with the business of living normally.
Not suggesting that Fauci and/or Birx are deliberately creating the conditions for economic catastrophe.
Not suggesting that by continuing the length of time of widespread infection they are deliberately creating the conditions for increased cases and increased deaths.
What I am suggesting is that there is no one who can say one way or the other that a relatively quick and intense herd immunization will result in more cases and more deaths than their current plan of government mandated lemming immunity.0 -
You make some very thoughtful observations and points to consider. Personally I take precautions but do not insist others do so. The only problem I have with the sudden herd immunity theory is overwhelming the healthcare system. If a county has the capacity to treat 1000 people and perhaps save some lives, then I would hate being patient 1050. The chances of recovery are bad enough in the hospital. Delay in treatment means the chances are even worse. Brings to mind the waiting lists in places that have socialized medicine. BobDon McManus said:

I became very cynical when an ICU Nurse I know told me that 1 out of 20 people placed on a respirator were dying. She had transferred for a couple of months to the Northeast to help out in the Covid ward. Herd immunity is not an all or nothing approach, I wouldn't think. All people should be responsible for themselves, particularly those of us who are vulnerable. I guess I just do not see the problem when the risk is virtually insignificant among young healthy adults, and I do not see why they are being restricted from anything, providing everyone involved is willing.
Were I to go into a crowded bar given my health history, I would be an idiot. My 30 year old neighbor is a different case entirely.0
