Had My First CC Chargeback on a gun purchase!
A new one for me. Had a buyer buy a brand new Glock 23 back on May 3rd. Paid promptly on my CC checkout, Gun was shipped promptly and was delivered by receiving FFL. Then, two days ago I see a cc chargeback on my bank account for the purchase of that gun. I called and left a message, sent them an email and still have not heard back. If any of y’all have dealt with this what’s the next step? I haven’t even received any information from my cc company about this.
thanks
thanks

I would be calling my CC company and talk to some one not leave a message and contact GB support 0 -
I don’t see where this is Gunbroker’s problem. I do see it as theft and fraud on the buyer’s part. 0 -
Call the CC company and let them know you have proof of delivery and it was a firearm. 0 -

Don't the cops usually come unglued over a stolen gun?? Doing a chargeback sounds like the stealing of your Glock 23 to me. What would happen if you would call the law in his area and report your stolen Glock?? I have no idea what would happen but I'll bet someone on here would know what would happen. 0 -
I hope this doesn't get locked, good info can come from this situation.select-fire said:IBTL Contact GB Support

I don't see this as having anything to do with Gun Broker or the auctions. This is strictly a credit card issue.Junkballer said:

CC Checkout was thru Gunbroker. Credit card company will need the name of the company where the gun was sold. ( listing ). 0 -
Get hold of the FFL who transferred the pistol, as quick as you can. Find out about his end of the transaction? If he had any problems with either the customer, or the transaction.
If this is a deliberate scam, not just a credit card mix up. Likely the FFL, got taken also. Always the possibility, the customer is crooked as a sidewinder. He was using a stolen card, with fake ID, to match.3 -
I would say this is a federal, interstate commerce violation. While local police might be interested there may be little they can/will do about it. Not sure which enforcement agency to contact. 0 -
I will admit that during my time running a gunshop on a number of occasions dealing with opportunistic folk I pulled out the phrase "not paying for a firearm is theft - theft of a firearm is a federal crime and the BATFE and FBI take such cases seriously"...
Some folks think that a low dollar value crime won't end up getting them arrested or jammed up - but stealing a $75.00 used gun is still an federal offense - not a misdemeanor...
Interesting - every time I had to resort to using such language the money showed up asap.

I just hope the seller didn't get scammed by a false CC , ID when picked up .... Gunbroker does have fraud insurance but still not a good situation. That is exactly why CC are not a good idea to use on transactions... only USPS money orders. 0 -
USPS Money Orders have been my way of doing business for many years, especially for guns. It gets the Feds involved.
However, the last few years I have seen some changes for the worse. The PO claims there are a lot of counterfeit Money Orders showing up.
At the same time it has become almost impossible to cash a Postal MO at a post office. They will sell you a MO in a flash but claim to not have enough cash on hand to cash one.I simply deposit the Postal MO in my bank account and wait a few days for it to clear...just like a check.

Off the subject but my bank runs them (USPS MOs )as I stand there, about 15 seconds and then good to go. New tech has caught up.bustedknee said:USPS Money Orders have been my way of doing business for many years, especially for guns. It gets the Feds involved.

Anyway I would get on the phone ASAP about the issue.0 -
Ok.....how chargebacks work is this.....
The cardholder disputes the charge, you are notified of the chargeback and you contact your gateway and they have a special department that handles chargebacks that will walk you through disputing the chargeback. The money is not automatically given back to the customer.....it is in "limbo" until the card company decides who is the rightful winner of the dispute. If you show they did make the purchase, the item was shipped it will go in your favor.
I've had a couple chargebacks that were done by mistake by customers and the customers were willing to fix the problem. It was actually easier to re-run the transaction when this happened than undoing the chargeback....they may be easier for you to fix it the other way.
Contact the customer and let them know there is a problem....they may not know. They may have unknowingly done something without meaning to. Either way, if its a valid sale it will be fixed by the chargeback department with your card processor.9 -
Oh....proving that you made the sale will be
Copies of the auction
Copies of the emails between you and them
Tracking numbers showing the shipping information
Contact information of the dealer that did the transfer of the firearm to the customer
They will make you mail in copies of all of this. The more detailed you can be the faster it will be handled.6
