    Nothing like the satisfaction you get from doing it yourself.
    The only problem is you will also know any defect at all even when others don't see it LOL.

    Thanks guys. I probably won't get much more done this weekend but I should be back at it and have it all wrapped up the weekend after.  I'll share further updates if there is interest.

    Nice work. I have a 8"X10" beam with (lot's of character,) as my mantle. 7-8' wide rock chimney in the living room.

    I just dropped $5426, in to a State of the Art Pacific Energy woodstove/insert with dual 80cfm. blowers, extremely high efficiency etc. etc. And extensive chimney work and a SS liner and cap. Install was this past Tues. 2 Guys who knew what they were doing, and had all the right tools. 4-5 hours total. Would have taken me days.

    Figure it will pay for itself in about 4-5 years.
