That is within a year, either way, that I passed on a 4 inch, chrome, Colt Python in one of them pretty wood boxes. I thought the price was to high!! My God, the dealer wanted $125!!! Thought he was WAY high!! 0 -
I was making about $3.00 an hour in '75 and in 2014 before I retired I was making $58 bucks an hour. So times are better now than then for most people. 0 -
1975 was a good year.....I busted my butt all summer long working for three farmers in the area mucking out barns, bailing hay, walking beans, mowing and any other job they had. All that fun for 1.50 to 2.00 an hour and a hardy lunch.......
I bought a brand new Ithaca 37 Featherweight and a full case of 6 shot 12 ga. Shells...out the door for all of it was 147 and some change. Still have that old Ithaca and even hunted doves with it last fall...3 -

IIRC, I was earning $ 60.00 a day in 1975 driving wheat truck during the summer. Jumped to $ 80.00 in 1978, and $ 100.00 a day to operate a harvester (combine) in 1979. Looks like I have been treading water for 45 years. 0 -

One of my jobs on the farm was mowing the hay. I carried the Single-Six on my hip on the tractor. I can't even begin to imagine how many rabbits I shot.
When you can hit a running rabbit from a moving tractor with a 5 1/2" revolver - while mowing hay . . . . . . . . . . well, I bet I can't do it today.0 -

I started with a sickle mower. I hated that machine. It was very quite (relatively speaking) and the animals would not run when they heard you coming. It made a mess of them when it got to them. They would just sit there - "hiding" from it - and it would go right over the top of them cutting off everything more than 3 inches off the ground. I especially hated the pheasant nests and the baby chicks. Nasty business.
Later we bought a "swather". Now that thing was noisy - gathering reel, then sickle blade, and then crimp rollers - usually being pulled by a bigger tractor. The thing made enough noise you almost needed hearing protection just to be near it. Yep, the animals could hear it coming from a 100 foot distance. They weren't there when you got there - but they would not run far out into the already mowed area of the field. They might stop at around 20 feet. (I can't explain animals. I just know how they act.) Anyway the object was to hit them on the run - at less than 20 feet . . . or wait until they stop and then hit them.
I suppose in hindsight the impressive part was the draw and not the shoot.

I remember buying all the same year a universal m1 carbine for 69.00 and a marlin 30-30 for 89.00 ,a mossberg 12 ga 79.00 if i remember the prices well enough all from Woolworth and Remington 700 BDL 30-06 from Rinks ( a early Walmart want to be ) just cant remember the price of it . a 22 lr from a local western auto all the guns were traded off many years ago .
one fond memory ( I can post for all ) I bought a super nice 65 mustang from a uncle he is a story in his self loved cars and racing who helped me "up date with a 4 speed and headers and so on 800.00 for the car sure miss that uncle RIP and the mustang .3 -

1975. Freshman in High School. Would have been lots of putting up hay, cutting/spearing and hanging tobacco. Etc. Etc. Farm stuff.
Bust your butt all day, might get a $20.
Still good times that I miss.
Bought my first Firearm for myself, a Savage mdl. 24, .22mag over a 20ga. Forget what I paid for it.

In 75 I made $679 dollars working part time with Continental Can planting trees, in the next year I almost doubled that to $1522.
The following year I cleaned up by joining the Navy and earned a mint $5387!
2nd yr Navy I earned $6115!3rd year I was on a roll 7422 and 4th and final year 7852.
Got out and made 16500 and I thought I was top dog LOL but I was way broker due to no longer eating and living on board for free!

I don't remember exactly what most things cost in '75, but I know I didn't have much money. I worked for a few months in a factory and I made $3.89/hr with time and a half over 40 hrs. Really hated that job. 0 -
$88 a week take home pay in 1975 and still had enough to buy a 1976 Toyota Corolla for $2880 brand new in October. I got seven good years out of that car. 0
