in March i had a defib/pace unit installed and when i went to the install doc in wichita this morning for a 3 month check this little unit shows a chart of every minute of every day....he said that this unit was paid for now and i asked what he meant.......two ways this goes ..one way the unit detects a ventricular tachycardia which can go on into ventricular fibrillation which is a fluttering of the heart muscle and you die...OR it gives a electrical shock that sets the heart back on regular sinus rhythm and ..he said record show june 12 8pm i bailed off in this and the unit automatically corrected the problem...back at home i found info on what i was doing the day before and that day and I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO KNOWLEDGE or feeling of this happening ???? his insistence that this unit be implanted means i am still here to go on living....i told him how much i appreciate his expertise and skill in treating me as a patient..... have not got a real grip on this yet today.....

still trying to adjust to this condition after a lifetime of work ..before i had to slow down i was running 6 irrigated circles (700 acres) and 1550 acres of dryland mostly by myself....no livestock other than our 4 rescue pets ......today is a good day so wife and i after self imposed isolation since the CV hit stopped at Wendy's and had a chicken sammich and large chocolate FROSTY.......yummy...... satisfying....one downside after implant is i can no longer use an electric welder, this after building a number of farm equipment items so i guess i will need to find some hobby to fill the shop... this being the only internet group i participate in has been informative and fun and hope i have not let out to much of what irritates me in the world to alienate the gathering......you all take a few minutes off and go have a cold thick FROSTY 3 -
You are very fortunate to have a heart doctor that saw the need for preventative devices.A-fib affects about 50% or more people in the country, very few complications although there is a chance of a blood clot. V-fib, big issue with that, most don't live to tell the story.
I have just about every thing man made in the ole ticker, may kick the bucket tomorrow. I will still say I most likely have 2 of the best heart doctors to ever walk the face of this ole earth, of course the had a lot of help from the Great Physician.

Before WhiteClouder passed, he had one put in that was state of the art. His doc chewed his butt after one of our camping trips, because he could not only tell he had been shooting rifles, but even from which shoulder he did it from, and how many times. 0 -

Busted a few big gun caps, 12 gauge heavy loads, 7mm STW, and an occasional 82 in the mix. Have had no complaints from my heart doctor. He reads a print out every six months of what has been going on. 0 -
Glad to hear your doing OK. They were a great invention. My mom had one put in a few years ago and she's out and about every day now and she'll be 90 in December. MY great grandpa lived until he was 96 with his pacemaker. 0 -
Wow, I guess he showed you a reason with date and time stamps to believe that getting that installed was high up on your top 10 decisions of all time! Hoping you hang out with us for a long while.
@ MyGym -Karma indicates you were good to your ex! BTW - Last time I touched an electric fence, the horse that was pushing me back into it thought I was the god of lightning when I lit his shoulder up! Glad I had all OEM parts that day, in the back, across to the arm and out the hand.

I was a paramedic for many years. I have put the paddles on the chest, and shocked many, many patients. Hundreds.
So you went in to V tach, and the machine in your chest shocked you and converted it to a Normal Sinus Rhythm.
Good God! V tach is a very scary arrhythmia when we saw it in the field we started working real fast. As you said, it will quickly go to ventricular fibrillation which means your heart is not beating, which means you are, dead.
Sounds like you have a good implanted device and a good doc.0 -

One of our fellow shooters has one as well. His doc who was a gun guy too told him he must give up shooting any rifle that generates recoil over 10 Lbs. 10 years is pretty good but to go in, right? It's too bad they don't make one that can be charged up like those magnetic base chargers. 0
