hi i just had cody do a serial no. search, for a 1894 winchester carbine with the ser no. in78000 it came back being made in1899. all my books say 1896. ? whats going on . thanks john

  Because all your books have the info that Madis compiled, and what he didn't have, he made up.

  Good morning,
  The data used by the Cody Firearms museum is based on the original serialization and production records kept by Winchester at the time of manufacture.  No one is 100% certain what is the basis of the info which George Madis published and has been copied over and over on lots of websites.
