used to be a dealer for those in South Charleston, Wv.   walked thru their lot several time just looking at them, never saw one in the water.

When I was growing up the dealer for Toro mowers and Cushman scooters was also the Amphi-Car dealer.

Well that explains why it sit dangerously low in the water at the rear. Rear engine. That thing looks ready to sink. Big time.

One boat passing with large wake. History.

Before the china virus, Celina Ohio would host an Amphicar rally at Grand lake in the summer. I doubt if they will have it this year. I looked at one in Dayton OH back in the late 60's setting at a Renault dealer's lot. It was raining that day and I could see a puddle on the floor. I looked underneath and there was a long crack in the middle of the hull and water was dripping out. That ended my quest.

Disney Springs, which is  in Orlando and is a part of WDW, is a glorified expensive outdoor shopping mall, with many costly places to eat, they have a lake adjoining the property and a business there that has maybe six of these hybrid vehicles and offers 20 minute Amphicar "boat "rides at about $125.00 per car load. Talk about a waste of money, but before Covid they were always out on the lake with tourists.

If Drobs or other members are interested I can prepare a compact pictorial essay on the amphicar and it's variants - along with some similar clones - copies - developmentally similar predecessor vehicles or more modern offshoots that follow the pattern...

Say 2-3 bakers dozen pic collection thread replies...

    Just let me know.

Saw a powder blue one like picture above out cruising around Alcova lake near Casper Wyoming  in the late 70's .
warched him pull up the boat ramp and drive off.
it was in immaculate condition. Never saw one before or since.
Bet they are worth $$$ to a collector, wonder if Jay Leno has one?

There is  a rich guy that lives on a local lake that has one.  I'd see him cruising around me while out fishing quite a bit.  Also have watched him drive the car out of the lake on the boat ramp while launching my boat.

Back in the early 60's when these cars were being made, the kid that I was back then always dreamed about a car that turned into a mini submarine!   Bat Man may have been an influence but you would think that by now a submarine car would be a common commodity!    Don't get me started on the Jetson's! :)

Walking by a car dealer with a friend back in the '60's and we saw on sitting on the lot.  I told him what it was and he laughed at me until I showed him the propeller at the rear!
